Unigine's DX11 Heaven benchmark - OMG look at this tesselation go! psolord Oct 23rd, 09, 03:16 PM #1

Yesterday, Windows 7 launch day, saw also the coming of a pretty cool benchmark/tech demo from the awesome guys at Unigine!

You can witness the effect of tesselation in the following video

YouTube - Hardware tessellation with DirectX 11 (Unigine "Heaven" benchmark)

As for the lucky blokes that already own an Evergreen, you can get the executable here!

Post your results and your videos!

I will have my 5850 next week!

edit-> Here's the complete DX11+Tesselation video btw!

4800 series have hardware tesselation , even 2900XT has it , so i guess we won't need to buy DX11 cards for this feature , unlless AMD is a bitch and won't support it from the drivers.

It seems it is a pretty heavy benchmark!

A friend of mine did some tests too.

Q9550 stock, ATI 5850 stock

1920X1080 2XAA DX10 no Tesselation 41 fps
1920X1080 2XAA DX11 no Tesselation 42 fps
1920X1080 2XAA DX10 + Tesselation 26 fps

It seems there's quite a big performance impact from the tesselation after all!

I thought it was like free or something! :S

It looks really cool

DirectX 11 seems like a good step forward. And from the developers' support, I guess we'll see much quicker adoption than DirectX 10.

Just watched the whole demo again in DirectX 11.

AMD might have an unexpected advantage on DirectX 11. I didn't expect to see DirectX 11 so soon, and now we have a polished 3D engine already even before DirectX 11 is officially released.

Probably nobody has an NVIDIA Fermi card right now, so most of the testing/tweaking would be done on AMD/ATI hardware. NVIDIA'd better hurry up.

I wonder if you can run the tesselation on a second graphics card, that would solve the performance drop right?

AMD has big advantage in DX11, All the currently being developed games are all being developed with ATi cards. ATi has been giving out Direct X 11 cards to developers for 1 YEAR now. nVidia has yet to even start working with the new API. I wouldn't be suprised if you seen an ATi the way it's meant to be played logo

My score... 1920x1080 0 AA tessellation Enabled. (2560x1600 wont work for some reason)

Added 1920x1080 2X AA tessellation Enabled
