Price increases for ATI Radeon HD 5850 VRNews Oct 29th, 09, 11:59 PM #1 (permalink)
In our Availability Report from 11 days ago, we noticed a general increase in HD 5850 prices across the board. Fudzilla now reports that AMD have themselves increased the prices by $15 to $20, taking into account the excess demand.

A quick check reveals that prices have increased by another $10 since our availability report 11 days ago. This puts the average retail price at $279, $20 up from the launch SRP of $259. Unfortunately, availability, though slightly increased, remains poor at best. Even though we are more than 5 weeks into HD 5800's launch - AMD does not seem to have come to grips with the demand.

AMD sucks balls.

Ten days ago, I ordered two 5850s from two different stores, both fairly priced. Since they are still not delivered, If I receive a notification about any price increase, I am so cancelling both of them and totally going for Nvidia, for both my rigs, not just one as is the current plan.

AMD has gotten on my nerves, too much already. Screw you AMD.

Did You see any official AMD confirmation that info ?
I see only speculation from low level FUD website.
Availability and prices GT200 card is much worse than AMD new 58xx series.

Yes, I agree that there's no proof that it's AMD who raised the price. This could be simply a supply-demand problem and someone along the supply line just tries to make a little extra.

But price increase on a month-old product is definitely not cool

Previously, manufacturers are pushing up the price of the ATI cards despite ATI MSRP due to hot demand. This round i think it might still be the case of manufacturers trying to get more fast cash from the buying craze...

Price increases may very well be a premium that sellers charge since they are aware of the shortage issue and the high demand for next gen graphic solution to complement Win 7.

If Fermi never materializes by next year February, I expect
prices of ATI cards to jump by 50% by then.
And this current trend of slow but gradual increase will
continue till Fermi makes it appearence.

Looks like its official.

Price War Reversed: ATI Icreases Pricing of New High-End Graphics Card - X-bit labs

But I wonder is demand overwhelming or supply very limited... I am def holding back my purchase until Fermi is out.

Demand exceed supply so even if you don't want to buy, there are people willing to pay that extra $10.

You already placed your order so I don't think they can raise the prices on you. How is it that AMD gets the blame when the shops are the ones who are not delivering the order?

well if no one buying it then price will drop that's how things work if many people's want it then price will go up and supply is also one of the cause to the price up or down.
