Chrome and others nibble away IE usage

Google's Chrome is still the fourth-place browser in terms of usage, but it gained more than others in October when it comes to stealing usage away from the dominant Internet Explorer.

According to Net Applications' browser usage share statistics, Chrome gained from 3.2 percent to 3.6 percent from September 2009 to October. The company bases its statistics on visits to a global network of 40,000 Web sites, dusted with some statistical processing.

Next was Mozilla's Firefox, which rose from 23.8 percent to 24.1 percent. Apple's Safari rose from 4.2 percent to 4.4 percent. Opera was essentially flat at 2.2 percent.

I feel sorry for all you people who haven't tried Opera 10 yet. It really is the best browser in the world - I still can't figure out why so few people use it.

It allows you to run custom scripts based on the URL of the page. This allows you to change the page you are viewing, for example re-arranging the layout to something you prefer but not intended by the site. Or use it to hack/bot web games.

Not surprising as people become more aware of the choices around them, they will start to try others out.

I feel so sorry for you, Opera is an lousy brand name that why it is not popular the same way as the most mature OS is called Unix, not anybody use it because of lack of marketing. Will you do the marketing for them?

Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari should all copy Chrome's model: move each tab into its own process instead of thread!

I love Chrome's ability to simply spawn a tab into a new window, and the ability to move tabs between 2 windows freely. Surfing with 2 opened windows is much more pleasant on Chrome than other browsers.
