SINGAPORE: Second—hand computer dealers have been hard hit by the recession. Some said business has plunged by 40 per cent. Used computer dealers like this shop in Little India are feeling the heat. As PC makers slash prices, the resale value of new computers is now lower. And with more consumers going online to hunt for cheap deals on second hand PCs, dealers said they are making less money. Mohd Muzzamil, salesman, Goodwill Electronics, said: “Every quarter there is an exhibition and everytime there’s a promotion. Our prices also have to drop. We cannot sell like in the past." Some dealers have turned to exporting used PCs to markets like Vietnam or diversified into computer repair and related services to keep the business going. — CNA/vm |
