The 'big splashes' from folks rushing down the water slide may not be heard anymore, but a new sound of children's laughter and glasses clinking is set to be ushered in.
The water park formerly known as Big Splash will be officially launched tomorrow as Playground @ Big Splash, a beachfront destination geared towards family entertainment and featuring a wide palate of gastronomic dining choices.
Spread over 300,000 sq ft along the East Coast Parkway, Playground @ Big Splash was formerly the location of an iconic waterpark which saw its heyday in the 1980s and 1990s.
Despite doing away with the water slides, developers Seafood International Market and Restaurant - who will operate the place on a 9-year lease - have decided to retain the "Big Splash" title as it remains an iconic namesake amongst Singaporeans.
The elements of family fun will be the new emphasis in the S$6 million redevelopment, with tenants like LilliPutt, a themed indoor mini golf course and Frisk 'n' Romp Kids' Playclub, an indoor play-and-learn sanctuary targeted at children.
Urban Inline, a skating school, T3 Bicycle Gears, and Kangoo Jumps rounds up the list of recreational options.
In addition to the 18,000 sq ft anchor tenant Seafood International Market and Restaurant, visitors to Playground @ Big Splash also have a varied range of gastronomic options such as KFC, Indian Times, 1 TwentySix, Sushi Tei, Old Town White Coffee, Mingles, and Seafood Man.
Three more tenants - Carl's Junior, Starbucks, and The Vista Bistro - will open within the next month. Burger junkies can look forward to Carl's Junior first-ever drive-thru facility in the Asia-Pacific region and a burger-shaped building facade.
Tomorrow's official opening day will feature a thrilling "Let's Play Amazing Race" contest where teams will be pitted against each other to fulfil tasks laid out by tenants of Playground @ Big Splash, such as rolling sushi.
Visitors can also expect to see caricaturists, Chinese Calligraphers, air brush tattoo artists, a silhouette cut-out artist, a reverse bungee and a bouncy castle, while they explore the newly developed grounds.
Rounding up the evening will be a jazz band, Lila Drums performance and a specially choreographed sports performance put up by inline bladers, BMX bikers, skateboarders and Kangoo Jumpers.
