He discovers wife's affair, so she buys insurance for him and...

THE murder of Kota Raja Malaysia Indian Congress Youth chief S Sivadurai seemed like a straightforward robbery-cum-murder.

His poor wife only barely escaped, suffering injuries in the process - or so she wanted everyone to think.

But as the Malaysian police investigated the crime that took place in Shah Alam, Selangor, they felt something was amiss.

Now they believe it is the wife who was behind the crime all along, reported Guang Ming Daily.

She has been detained. Last Saturday, they arrested her 34-year-old lover, reported The Star.

According to the police, the wife had been having an affair with him for six years.

But recently. Mr Sivadurai, a 42-year-old businessman, discovered their affair.

After this, she bought for her husband RM1 million ($422,000) in insurance and allegedly plotted with her lover to kill her husband.

The wife, 34, who worked in the insurance industry, had failed to return a sum of money to one of her clients and was heavily in debt.

She allegedly duplicated her husband's office key and gave it to her lover.

AMBUSH

The lover then allegedly armed himself with a steel rod and a baseball bat and waited in ambush in the office on 28 Apr.

When Mr Sivadurai returned to his office at around 8pm, the lover allegedly beat the unsuspecting man to death. He also strangled the victim with a telephone cord.

A friend of the victim said the wife had called him at the time. The frantic-sounding wife wanted the friend to rush down to the office.

When the friend arrived, the wife claimed that three Indonesian men had broken into the office to rob them.

She claimed she escaped but fell while doing so, injuring herself. She added that her husband was injured and begged the friend to save him.

It took them 30 minutes to get up to the scene of the crime, and Mr Sivadurai was already dead, the friend said.

When the police arrived, they sent the wife to hospital to have her wounds treated.

But the police became increasingly suspicious of her testimony.

The police now believe her injuries, on her legs and head, were self-inflicted.

It is not known if the wife was present when Mr Sivadurai was killed.

It is understood that the wife revealed the crime's details and her lover's whereabouts after she was detained.

The lover is said to have confessed to the crime.

According to Guang Ming Daily, the police are preparing to charge them for murder. If convicted, they face the death sentence.

A third person, a male teacher, has also been detained.

The police have not ruled out claiming the victim's insurance money as the motive for his murder.
