ACA officer held for stealing gun, other items
An Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) officer was picked up by police for allegedly stealing a pistol, live ammunition, camcorders and digital cameras from the ACA office in Penang.
GEORGE TOWN: An Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) officer was picked up by police for allegedly stealing a pistol, live ammunition, camcorders and digital cameras from the ACA office here.
The officer, in his 30s, had allegedly broken open a metal cabinet at the ACA office in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah to steal the items, which included five live bullets, two camcorders and two digital cameras.
Several ACA officers discovered the theft on Monday morning.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abdul Hamid said a police report was lodged at the North East district police headquarters at 11am on Monday.
He said the suspect, believed to be a drug addict, was arrested at his house in Jelutong at 9pm the same day.
ACP Azam said the suspect had been remanded for a week for further investigations.
If convicted, the man faces a maximum jail term of 14 years.
