Charged with sex with boy

A WOMAN accused of having sex with an underage boy has been taken to court.

The 32-year-old stall assistant pleaded guilty to causing a person under 16 to have sex with her on several occasions between May 4 and May 17 last year.

The woman cannot be named to protect the identity of the boy, a student, then aged 15.

She was not represented and has been in custody for a week as she could not raise the $10,000 bail offered.

At her second court appearance yesterday, the petite woman with dyed brown hair indicated that she would be pleading guilty to two of the seven charges filed against her.

Her case will be mentioned again tomorrow.

Following amendments to the Penal Code in February last year, it is an offence for anyone to have sex with a person under 16.

If convicted, she can be jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined.

In February, a 32-year-old former school teacher became the first woman to be jailed 10 months for having sex with a 15-year-old student at a Pasir Ris chalet in March last year.

The pair had sex on five more occasions either at her home or the chalet before she decided to end the relationship.

The married mother of two, who came to know the boy during an overseas school trip, felt that he was getting overly possessive and temperamental. She also began having regrets about the affair.

When he refused to end the relationship, she ignored his calls and SMS messages. Then in May, the boy threatened to kill the woman and her family members.

She was worried that he would carry out the threat and two days later, she spilled her secret to the school counsellor.
