Lightweight with performance laptops narutiment Apr 5th, 07, 06:39 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi guys, would like to know is there any good offers on notebooks (from ntu, or outside shops) which is:
-lightweight (about 2kg)
-long battery life
-not too bulky
-rather perfomance series(including smooth usage in programming, video editing)
-not necessary need a dedicated gfx but at least gma 256mb shared.
-abt 2 to 3 years warranty

Budget hopefully not more than 2.8k.
Macbook pro is sought of out of reach since it cost 3k and above, though it will be interesting.

Is it better to continue with xp pro instead of going over to vista now? Seems that there are still programs which are not compatible

hey bro, kinda hard to get performance + long battery life + lightweight....

For video editing, of course a core 2 with 2gb ram will be good, and definitely you need 14" screen or more if editing is done on the lcd itself, which most probably translate to around 2kg to 2.5kg range with a normal battery.

For Asus A8 series, weight around 2.2kg, cpu core 2, 14" screen. Battery life will last 2-3 hrs for programming, but very short for video editing. In my case using adobe premiere, laptop needs AC power for editing to be lag free, and I have 2gb of ram running core2 2ghz.

IMO, A8JS will be a good buy for you if you want a dedicated gfx and better processor. If not, go for those A8 series with integrated gfx card and slower processor and it will shave you off around 600. Go to funan and bargain around, and you will have money to get an extended batt for even longer battery life

I too feel that the A8Js is a very good buy. But sadly I looked around and seems like there isnt any stock. For 2.6k. I think its one of the best lightweight performance notebooks.
