China-based 7-inch USB interface touch screen module
With some users finding Asustek's Eee PC lacking in respect to its small keyboard making input harder, limited storage space, or connectivity options, a budding industry has begun to emerge in the Taiwan market with vendors offering Eee PC modification services to satisfy consumer demands.
One of the most popular mods currently equips the Eee PC with touch screen capabilities which along with the installation of Windows XP Tablet edition enables the system to support handwriting input. The total cost of the mod including labor is only around NT$2,000 (US$62.08).
In addition to touch screen capabilities, vendors are also able to add connectivity modules such as Bluetooth or 3G to the Eee PC or can offer to increase the storage capacity. If you opt to have all three modifications done at once you can expect to pay between NT$3000-4000 depending on the amount of NAND Flash added.
Asustek Computer has warned that any non-official modifications to the Eee PC will void the warranty and so consumers are acting at their own risk. However, the range and popularity of the mods being tried at this time may have given Asustek's technicians ideas for future Eee PC models.
