in my opinion, asus learned that if you can upgrade this unit and extend its useful life, then it will take a longer time for you to consider this unit obsolete (i.e. you wont upgrade faster and less money for them). they can afford to let you upgrade the older eee pc 701 since the screen is too small for use that you'll opt to upgrade to a newer bigger screen model.

asus is in this for the money, that's why they are charging huge dollar on upgrades that cost them only cents. be prepared for more milking. atom is on it's way, and 10" screen by the end of the year. they are designing each eee pc release so that you'll end up forever upgrading.

Nah, 2GB is great for running without a swapfile; it's less reliable with 1GB considering that some of it's eaten by the graphics card...

TC: can you post something up at eeeusers (http://www.eeeuser.com/)? They may be able to help you more than we can...

OK, I don't know what's wrong with my Crucial PC5300 2GB SODIMM, but it refuses to run at 400MHz. And it is rated for 667MHz.

It was running fine yesterday.

EDIT: Now the RAM runs at 400MHz. It's crazy.

So is your 2GB RAM detected or not?

When it is detected, the unit is able to boot up and show something on screen.

It seems it has problems running at 400MHz, but not at 280MHz.

The stock RAM has no problem.

Transcend 2G DDR2 667 RAM works very well on the eee 900.(from personal experience).. You can test on the spot..just ask for doris@memeory world...Kingston DDR2-667 which works well on the 700series appears to be problematic on the eee 900...
