Hi all,
Just want to let fellow members/visitors know the following fact
Dell Studio XPS is advertising with Nvidia Geforce 210m graphic card. Please note that it is actually misleading. U do not get a Nvidia 210m discrete graphic card.
What u get is a 9400m gpu when on dell recommended and power saving mode. Then u switch to high performance mode, only then the 210m gpu kicks in SLI mode.
Below is the reponse i gotten from dell Technical manager
Please look thru article below :
**************************************************
So, please let the customer modifies the power plan with high performance than see the Graphics information.
See below information, you can see on the DELL recommended mode of Power plan, the Graphics card information is G9400M
But at the high performance mode of power plan, the Graphics card information is G9400+ G210 ( Jolie MLK discrete) or G9500 (G9400+ G9200) (Jolie discrete)
Please try it and explain to customer for this.
Power plan: Dell Recommended Moe
Power plan: High Performance
P.s I will upload the images later once i got spare time tonight.
With this setup, when u switch to high performance, the temperature of the laptop will rise SIGNIFICANTLY and will require users to prop up the laptop and have some decent airflow.. (this laptop on high performance mode is definitely hotter than my old unit- which i dunno y also.. )
I have just received my replacement unit from dell after my previous unit which was using the sli 9500m (9400m + 9200M) was overheating despite working in aircon room and had to be serviced 8 times onsite by dell engineers and workshop technicians twice which took 5 days and 10 days respectively to allow me to have a working laptop.
So please do your homework before even considering buying this laptop.
There are a lot of users comments out in the internet and i as a tech guy will not recommend anyone to purchase this unless u got all the time in the world to talk to their technical support.
And oh.. btw i am a heavy user. meaning i use the laptop 7 hrs a day.. so all the above comments are feeling from my 7 hrs of usage daily
