[INFO] Caring for your dakimakura aka hug pillows. DragonFire May 5th, 09, 08:53 PM #1 (permalink)
~ Fine, Too ~ : vPost 03 : Naze Nani Dakimakura~

Great information for those who keep them

The delicate fabric these things are made of require special treatment when it is bath time.

High tech polyester weave afaik. Same stuff high end lingerie is made off. It is difficult to do a high resolution print on polyester, which is also ridiculously difficult to dye.

Hey there, noticed you guys linked my blog and video, so I'll tell you more about the fabrics.

There's only a few types of fabrics generally used for dakimakura fabrics:

The most common is Polyester or Polyester-hybrid. it has a matte look to the threads, a bit more 'rough' or resistive to touch compared to the other two types. This is also the cheapest of fabrics, and you usually get these types of dakimakura in 'freebie' mags like Dengeki (Gs, Festival).

The second most common is Satin. It's thinner, shinier, fabric is more supple to the touch. It's a bit more expensive but less durable than Poly/poly-hybrid. It tears and such much easier, companies are moving away from this fabric because the stitching is insanely difficult to keep strong on such a weak fabric.

The one that's most 'rare' but growing in popularity is called Poly-Peachskin. It's like polyester but they weave in a second fiber that's very soft to the touch. 'High' grade dakimakura were using this way back when they first came out, these could cost upwards 200 bucks back then but now they have better ways to mass produce them so their prices are coming down. Poly-Peach is more durable, stains less and is a bit more forgiving to wash and such.

Thanks for the linkback and feel free to contact me if you want more info or have questions.

Too fragile, hard to wash, stains far easier than a synthetic, isn't as prone to colors wearing out, usually.

yeah....i think the fact that it is easy to wash is very important...given that the number of times it is 'stained' monthly....
