New to Overclocking...help please? Hurricaneboi Nov 25th, 06, 09:08 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi guys, I'm a complete virgin to overclocking and I'd like to try it out. Currently using E6300 with Asus P5B, and 2GB Patriot DDR-667 rams.

Could someone tell me how to start? like with ram timings and stuff? Or perhaps recommend a good guide please? thanks alot!!

haha stickies!

and i would say dun start with ram timings.. u will go blur.. start with fsb, mulipliers and things like tt then go on to learn abt dividers..

haha thank you very much for coming in. I heard about fsb:ram dividers and the first thing I thought of doing was making it 1:1 cuz my ram frequency is 333mhz so I thought of pushing fsb from 266 (stock) to 333mhz first. then run superpi to test stability. But other than that I'm pretty lost. haha. Also know that if unstable, increasing voltage helps to improve stability. But Vdimm i am lost. haha. vcore I know at least.

a little help??

hahahaha no time tomorrow dahh...tied up =) but I just pushed fsb to 300 no prob ran superpi at 4M. is that enough? Or should I test all the way up to 32M? Still lost on RAM tweaks =)

ok thanks what I did just now was push my fsb to 333 but it failed so I entered BIOS and reverted back to 300. I found that the ram freq was at DDR2-8something so I changed it to DDR2-666. Anything I did wrong?

wat abt this, set ram divider to the lowest, dun care abt ram first... slowly up ur fsb to find the ceiling of your processor. after u found it, test the max of ur ram instead of doing both at the time

ok thanks farksy...i managed to increase the fsb to 330 so now its 330 x 7. I locked the mem timings at 5-5-5-15...dunno if it was the right thing to do. fsb : ram now is 4:5. Funny thing is, I set voltage to 1.3250 in BIOS but in cpu-z it still reads 1.280. how come??

Should read this although is for DDR1 and for A64, its still a very good guide, i from dunno to become noe how to OC....

Best is to find the max ghz ur processor can overclock till before finding the max mhz ur ram can go.. do 1 at a time, then after tt do some calcutions, instead of doing all at once...
