experiencing random shutdown with Biostar TA790GX 128M PhoZy Apr 19th, 09, 11:17 PM #1 (permalink)
Running with X3 720 4th core unlock. System will randomly shutdown when running prime95 with vcore set to auto @ 1.280. I started experimenting with lower vcore @ 1.14. And the problem seems to go away. Currently IBT 20pass stable and prime95 2hr stable. Could it be the mobo is faulty? The voltage regulator is pretty uncomfortable to touch.

Using Scythe Ninja for cpu cooler, Noctua Nc-U6 for chipset, Enhance 460w PSU.

since u unlock the 4th core, i suggest u increase your voltage. an unstable cpu is usually cause by the voltage..

You need to cool your mosfets!

You wont be the first, but you may or may not have already damaged your motherboard.

If 80+ degrees is considered uncomfortable to touch, you must be superhuman. I cant even touch the mosfets at such temps.

Will go down to UVnium tomorrow after work.
Anyway is this board unsuitable for overclocking Phenom II? Running my X3 unlock i will experience random shutdown when running stress test, its like someone pulled the power cord.

Thats probably coz not enough juice (voltage) to your rams/processor.

i burnt one of my mosfets on that board so you should stop all overvolting now before putting on mosfet heatsinks! dunno if its too late or not, are any of your mosfets uneven on the surface?

i dont even know if passive heatsinks are enough for overclocking on this board.. ah khoo you had no problems after using the uvnium ones issit? is it safe if i cant get direct airflow over it? my com starting to experience instability problems now le one month after the mosfet was burnt.. so thinking if i should buy another 790 128m in the forums
