Overclock AMD XP 2400 + Meunouk Jul 13th, 03, 07:31 PM #1 (permalink)
Hello all

Ive been looking to overclock for a few months but tbh havent really looked into it a great deal. I recently bought my new system which looks like this

ABIT KD7-E Motherboard
AMD XP 2400 (2.0 GHZ)
1 GIG DDR PC2700
GF4 Ti 4200
120 GIG HDD 7200 RPM

I got 1500 points on 3D Mark 2003 and 10,500 on 3D Mark 2001SE which I was a little disapointed in as my friend with a 1.4 GHZ, 128 meg DDR, GF3 and a 30 GIG 5200 RPM HDD got almost 9,000 points on 3D Mark 2003.

I was talking to my friend about it and he pointed me tohere

I was wondering if that guide looked good to you guys, and if there are any other things I can do to improve my PCs performance (in the bios etc)

On Battlefield 1942 I get 100 FPS but sometimes it will drop to around 50 FPS for no apparent reason, and stay there for a few seconds before going back up to 100 FPS. Any ideas?

Cheers

Welcome.

First of all, don't rely on the Battlefield, it's just a game. It might be a flaw.

Second, there is no 9000 3dmark 2003 score, I'll assume your friend meant 3dmark 2001.

Third, forget about the website you got there, your CPU can't be unlocked like that but it will be unlocked automatically on most recent boards.

Now, on to overclocking, your board is somewhat old and not good for that. You could simply try that, but it won't help too much :

Set memory frequency to 133mhz, synchronous with the CPU.

Set the CPU voltage to 1.75v and keep an eye on the temperatures.

Raise the FSB, slowly, until you find out where it's unstable. When you do, get it down a little and test it's stability there.

Oops Sorry I meant 2001 not 2003

Will try what you said now thanks

My motherboard was £60 thats the main reason I got it, and it does the job. It is only 4 x AGP though so if I am to upgrade the Graphics Card I would want a new mobo

when you update, I`ve found the Abit NF7-S ver 2.0 MB to be very stable and over clockable with lots of options.
Had an MSI KT3 ultra MB could only get a xp2200 to 143fsb, with this i`m able to drop the multiplyer and run @ 222fsb and it increases my 3DMARK 2001se score by about 50%%!!! From about 13,000 stock speeds to about 18,400 OC`d!
