Intel >.< Bleam Jul 15th, 03, 04:17 AM #1 (permalink)
Hello everyone :^D

I am switching from AMD to Intel ...
I am now asking you to help me out (pls. :^x )

I am planning to buy a 3.2C (Cooled by Mach2) and a FX 5900Ultra (Cooled by Vapo XE)

Now my biggest question is, what motherboard?
1. Get myself a P4C800 and Vmod it ?
2. Get myself a Abit IC7G MAX3 as soon as it comes out ?
3. Get myself a EPoX EP-4PCA3+ NOT SURE ABOUT THIS ONE? IS THIS THE NEW EPOX FOR P4 THAT IS COMMING OUT WITH HIGH VDIMM?

Now about memory, If I want to at least clock to 4.4 Ghz, I'll need some high end memory
I was thinking of buying myself the Dual Channel Sets from GeIL3500 ... Good idea?

What Voltmods will be needed if I want 4.4+ Ghz? (On the board + Explain why you would take that board)

Now for the 5900Ultra, what brand is known for good overclocking ? And easy to voltmod?

Greets and thanks to those that are answering my questions

.edit.
I hear to run the Golden Dragon GeIL3500 at 3.1V to get at least 260FSB 1:1, What board can do this, and if you take a board I should voltmod, tell me why also

Whats a safe voltage for a P4 CPU under a prometeia? and safe voltage for GeIL Golden Dragon ram?
Also could I have links to voltmods for a 5900Ultra?

My Intel knowledge is lacking but I would highly advise putting it together and seeing what you can do without volt mods first. I am sure an Intel person will be along though.

vmods will only work on a P4 for a short time.... VARY short time. Any voltage above about 1.7v will kill the processor in a few months (the higherthe vltage, the shorter the life) this is in part of the thinner process, it takes less power ti short 2 adjacent wires with how close they are, and this will only get worse as the wires keep getting smaller and closer together

also, id be really supprised if you can get to 4.4GHz, for even Tom's Hardware Guide was only able to hit 4.1GHz stabely, and with only minor voltage increase and Ln2, with it inside a refridgerator. the tipical o/c of the P4 3.2 800MHz FSB seems to be around 3.6-3.8GHz.

Hello to you as well.

1. If you know how to do Vdimm and Vdd mods, it's good. The P4P800 is cheaper and as good though.

2. Your call.

3. If you know how to do a Vdimm, Vdd and Vcore mod. It does have high Vdimm settings already but for such pressure you might need more. It's Vcore is suffering though.

Geil memory is good but need a hell of voltage. You'll need at least 3.2v of voltage to reach such speeds. An timings will suffer, you'll have them at 2.5/8/4/4.

OCZ PC3700EL Gold ram is good also.

Memory and Vdd, for any board. Vcore on a few. Vdimm because your ram will need a lot of power, especially the Geil ram. If you get another brand ram and the Epox board, you can skip that, it has high Vdimm adjustments. Vdd because the chipset might fail to overclock that much. Vcore on the few that can't have settings up to 1.75v.

About the 4.4ghz, no matter the board, you'll need a good piece of CPU. VERY good piece.

The voltmod is up to you, it's the same more or less on all cards. All brands use the reference design, so just get the cheapest one. A reputable brand though, so it will have good power equipment.

Always 1.75v and under. Anyway if you give more voltage it'll degrade.

About the Geil ram, ask God. I never saw any dead from high voltage. Their GD ram won't power on with more than 3.25v though.

Grace! You're the first on 4 boards to have answered all my questions, thanks

I still remain with 1 question, What about the Gainward FX5900U that are comming out, the ones with red PCB, they will need a other kind of vmod that the ones now... just asking they should also get a better oc and so .. :x

What about it? I'm planning top3 orb with this rig so I'm planning to get the best of the best, that is why I'm asking this I put this thread on 4 forums, I get alot of info!!!! This is great knowledge for me too

greetings bleam

You are welcome.

About the Gainward, I don't think that will require another Vmod. All cards use the same reference design and none is willing to change it.

About the Top3 of the ORB, I'm sure you'll find the competition more than challenging. It's not something as easy as you think, it's not only the equipment that will get you there.

I have alot of experience with ORB, but I never had the system to compete with the high ppl... (I always had an amd system, only speed I could bench was 2.95 :/)

With this system i'll do my outer best to reach that

now, how much watt does a high oc'ed FX5900U core give? and each memory module?

Cause I'm not sure if 150W is enough to cool a whole card :/

If you mean the heat output, I don't think it'll surpass the 80w at any case.

About the memory, not 30w the whole module in any case. You don't need more than some good heatsinks on them and still those do little.

I mean a vapo can remove 150W right? so If I put vapo on the core an dit only undo 80W i'll have 70W going trough the card, so the memory will be cooled by the vapo too, cause some ppl say vapo won't be enough if I want to do same clock as macci
