Unfortunately, it seems that SLI is really bottle necked by CPU/System power.....
A close to 200Mhz increase in core speed and 100+ mhz increase in memory speed brings only close to 1000 points more....

Think the top spot for 05 will be a fight on the system power rather than graphics power....

nice one there. So you saying that 2x 7800 score only 12k?. Or the cpu botleneck limit you only 1000 points from 200+ on the core?

The score for 7800 GTX SLI hovers around 16-17K irregardless how high your core and memory clock speeds are. 3DMark05 is severly CPU limited on Game Test 1 and Game Test 2 as pointed out in our review here : http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=2367&s=11

The key to high score on SLI will probably be on the CPU side for now and i have a feeling that at least a >4GHz FX is needed to remove the bottleneck when the cards are runnning at 700MHz core. I believe NVIDIA will need to work on the drivers to make it less CPU dependant when running SLI.

Below shows how CPU limited the G70s are in SLI mode, especially in GT1 and GT2



The CPU speed is at 3.6Ghz, same for both runs. GPUs are at 495/1350 on the left and 653/1491 on the right.

For 31% increase in core speed and 10% increase in memory speed 05 went up by only 6%.
GT1 and GT2 (which was initially thought to be a very GPU bound test) went up by only 0.6%!
