Mega Shadow vs TRUE Black - Physical dimensions Zetc Sep 13th, 09, 11:11 AM #1 (permalink)
Just thought I'll post up some pictures here to show the differences

Size difference between MegaShadow and TRUE Black

Close up shot of the base of the MegaShadow

Overall, the MegaShadow has wider fin spacing, is wider and has more fins compared to the TRUE Black. This probably translates to less restrictive airflow and thus noise as well as better thermal dissipation.
The height clearance between the base and bottom of the fin array is also shorter than the TRUE Black.

Close up shot of the clearance between the NorthBridge heatsink and the MegaShadow..

Looks like a close fit but I suppose it should be able to fit most motherboards without any issues

thks for the pic...

But for certain P55 mobo, need to pay more attendtion to this cooler cause might hit the back of the gpu if installed in the orientation above.

if that's the case, then would the TRUE Black face the same issue? Since they're about the same length:

Hmm.. no benchmarks
But here's a screenshot of the readings from HWMonitor taken today in the afternoon:

Air temperature inside the casing is 33.6 degrees according to the KamaMeter.

Ya. I have TRUE. It might 'kiss' the back of the gpu especially for those 3rd party gpu cooler like HR03 which got nut to secure the retention bracket. The nut will kiss the HSF.

This even worse if fan holder is fited on TRUE.

I would say this is due to the no nb on the p55 chipset thus some manufacturer might place their first PCI-E slot too near to cpu.

Anyway can be sloved via other orientation. So will not be front intake and rear exhaust kinda air flow

I see, was thinking the absence of the NB would lead to that but I'm pretty sure most motherboard manufacturers will take into account the use of a third party heat sink.
Some manufacturers also place the PCI-E x 1/4 slot first so I suppose that would help as well.

Beside the gpu part....the memory part also gotta pay attention coz if u have tall memory heatsink such as Corsair Dominator GT, then TRUE or Megahelem with the fan installed might block the memory as well. TRUE or Megahelem without fan near to the memory slot won't block the memory.

I dunno why P55 mobo design for cpu is too near to memory slots and first PCI-E slot

Anyway, nothing 100% confirmed yet coz I still need the LGA1156 mounting bracket to test more for P55 mobo. Now I just put the TRUE with cable tie and the alignment may not reflect the actual position of the HSF. Coz cable tie can't hold the HSF in the exact positon.. but.....I think it will be hinderence to the 3party gpu HSF or tall memory

Yeah, that might be a problem with the fatter Megahalem.
Alternatively, I suppose one could mount the fan on the left side (facing the exhaust) instead of the usual right side mount.

anyone using the megashadow as push pull fan? 2 fan setup

I did a 2 fans get up. But the 'pull' fan at the aft is making some noise... i think its air noise. then i thought fan spoilt. Then i change over the fan. same problem.

Using 2 x scythe s-flex G 1900rpm fan lei.

Its normal...due to the turbulence caused by the air pushed tru the fin and then sucked pass tru the rear fan

Happen to most dual fan push-pull config. Normally what i did is to install a weaker fan for push and slightly stronger fan for pull..anyway, more fan more noise

Try using a Nocuta P12 for the Pull fan, you might notice a difference.

Edit: Too bad Noctua doesn't have fans with higher RPM, so it might not suit your needs. But I think if you use, say a scythe 1200rpm fan, you'll probably find the Noctua quieter in a pull config.

sorry ah. to get my term rite.

the 'pull' fan is the 'exhaust' fan for the hsf rite? will it improve the temperature if using a slower fan?
