Rusty radiator lzxhenry Oct 3rd, 09, 12:18 AM #1 (permalink)
Dear WC bros out there.. Need some advice from you guys.
I bought a used rad from VRZ and got to know that the rad is damn rusty from the inlet and outlet.... Should I continue to use it for my WC setup or get a new one?

Is there any ways to clean up the rad?

Appreciate your feedback and advices... Thanks

Radiator flush for radiator available at Giant, near Tampines Ikea.
Make sure you used a cheap aquarium pump with filter sponge at the outlet of rad. and let it run and u can see the dirt n slime.
Reverse the flow n run again. You can clean the filter n run again.

Before doing that you can soak the rad with strong vinegar, dunno how long, depending on the stain. Flush away with fresh water. And used the commercial rad flush n run 1/2 a day, not to worry as is only your rad.
For car you need to worry about the hoses, seals, gasket and pump for prolong peroid.

Make sure u only soak the vinegar inside the rad n not the exterior. ANd prepare 2 lousy n cheap hose long enough to connect to the barbs of the rad....

Interior of a rad is copper, not steel, so it is not rust. It's tarnished as a result of oxidation which is natural for all rads (or even those copper heatsinks) after a period of use.

Don't have to bother about it as it won't hurt your loop at all.

even though mine car rad which was new the other time, flushing helps to clear all slimes n dirt. Yah, is copper and copper do stain after prolong usage. Though is fine, but after using the "rad flush", all the coolant stain and whatever u used will be flush out and the sponge filter will catch all the stain.
Always used distill water with coolant, even though car also the same. As tap water contains minerals n chlorine.
