Help with E4500 and P35 neo2 quarkz Oct 24th, 09, 11:07 AM #1 (permalink)
Hi,

my E4500 and MSI P35 NEO2 has been running fine at 295*11=3245 with vcore at 1.35v for quite a while. ram is at 1:1 using 2* 1gb kingston ddr2 6400. cooler is CM TX2

now i'm trying to get some more improvement, like increasing the fsb.

i tried to lower the multiplier to 6 and managed to get 440 at vtt = 1.325v. vcore is at the default. hence, i thought i should be able to push my system to 405*8=3240. However, system crashes after using prime95 for 5mins.

So of my qns are:

1. My ram is rated 400. So I think 405 should make much difference right? I tried increasing it to 1.9v but no diff. So ram prob is out.

2. If I can get fsb of 440 and also speed of 3245@295*11, why can't I get a slight lower speed of 3240@405*8? What could be the limiting factor here?

3. Is there a "better" bios? i'm using v1.62

4. Is a higher fsb always faster in the end? ie 405*8 vs 295*11.

Btw,I tried to use vcore=1.35, vtt=1.35, NB=1.45, Sb=1.8, ram=1.9

Thanks alot for the help!

1. My ram is rated 400. So I think 405 should make much difference right? I tried increasing it to 1.9v but no diff. So ram prob is out.-E4K series are known to have an FSB wall. So its not uncommon to have them stuck @ a certain FSB, hence the instability. Make use of ur CPU's high multiplier.

2. If I can get fsb of 440 and also speed of 3245@295*11, why can't I get a slight lower speed of 3240@405*8? What could be the limiting factor here?-Make use of ur high multiplier instead and play with the memory ratio.
For higher stable fab/ram speed, inscrease ur NB voltage.

3. Is there a "better" bios? i'm using v1.62
I'm using this board. Almost 3 yrs.
I'm on 1.8++ bios or something. It recognises .5x multi.

4. Is a higher fsb always faster in the end? ie 405*8 vs 295*11.
-For this range of cpus, yes it helps. (Not for amds or i7s)
High fsb adds more stress on the nb as nb also controls memory.
So higher voltages is surely required.

Btw,I tried to use vcore=1.35, vtt=1.35, NB=1.45, Sb=1.8, ram=1.9
-For E4K series, usually after 3.2~3.3ghz,
the vcore needed for scaling increases alot(look back @ qn.2).
So, try higher vcore like 1.45v. (I can't remember the vtt part. )
