by using other brand refill will it void the printers warranty??
1. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act – as quoted in the Federal Warranty Law
The following is an excerpt from the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act (MMWIA):
"No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived IF (1) the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and (2) such waiver is in the public interest."
The above statement means that manufacturers are not allowed to void the written warranty given merely on the basis that the purchasers have used compatible articles or services of a third party UNLESS there is contrary evidence showing the damages that are caused solely by such articles or services.
This is in line with the Principle of Exhaustion of Rights under the Common Law, namely once the products are sold, the consumers are free to deal with the goods purchased as they wish.
actually that's what i'm afraid off too...cos 3 yrs warrenty mah...
but come to think of it....choi lah...the $$$ spend on saving ink can get a replacement printer even though it spoils in the 2nd year...LOL
Bro, i posted this in another thread, but here it goes again..
Let me give u a scenario..
A Brother 115C cost $118 (my shop's selling price)..
A set of Original 115C cartridges cost like $85..
2 sets cost u $170.
3 sets cost u $255.
4 sets cost u $340.
SingInk Brother refill solutions
1 set of 4 bottles of ink for $40 inclusive of modifications to cartridges for refill.
Let's say u buy my SingInk compatible ink for $40 (400ml)..
it will last u 10 refills (or equivalent of 10 sets), will cost $85 if it's original ink.
But if YOU ASSUME that compatible ink spoil ur printer, which is VERY UNLIKELY,
let's ASSUME, printer spoils after using 4 sets of compatible ink.
U throw away the printer, coz u think no warranty.
Savings = (cost of originals - cost of compatible) = $340-$40 = $300. U have saved $300!!!
Now, how many more Brother 115Cs can u buy with the savings?
2 sets! and u even have $70 left over!!
So let me pose u a simple question, are u gonna pay $800+ to maintain a warranty that's worth like $40??
It's just simple maths.. Do your own maths.. and then u will realise it's quite foolish to pay so much for that miserable warranty..
Doesn't it resembles Handphone contract?
And mind you, if u too long never print and ur printhead gets clogged or spoilt, or maybe die off due to wear n tear if u print alot..
Canon or Epson will even ask u to pay like almost $200 to replace a printhead!!!!
So what warranty are we talking about?
And let me round off by saying that compatible ink do not spoil the printer..
If compatible ink spoil the printer, u think Sepoms, Orink, PioneerTech, Callidad, G&G, InkTec, Orange, Peach, etc etc..
can still sell their products? And many of them are international brands mind u..
If the ink spoils the printer, then there would have been many class action suits.. =X
