Need Help (Tortoise) Del_CtrlnoAlt Jun 13th, 11, 02:24 PM #1

Ok, i found a tortoise yesterday crawling along the double yellow line when i was making a turn out from a fren's carpark.

I stopped my car and decide to put it on the pavement but my fren said, it'll go onto the road again. So i brought it back...

Anyway, just wondering, do i need to bring it to a vet or something? Some FB fren said feed it with kangkong, but it seem to be feeding on the leaves & grass in the garden its ignoring my kangkong.

How do i identify what kinda tortoise is the one i've picked up... its bigger than my palm. Can't grab it with 1 hand, thats why its kinda big and noticeable when its walking along the street.

take a few pictures of the tortise and show us? meanwhile leave the kangkong there and if possible grab some tortise food from the pet stores. Of cos bringing to the vet will be a good idea if u are willing to spend that much on the tortise

You might want to consult the AVA. Some tortoises are local fauna; others are often illegal imports.

I saw a wild tortoise here near Pierce Reservoir once. It ambled into the forest and was never seen again.

think after a check, i'll put it back into nature, think it belongs there, keeping it as pet would not be healthy for a wild animal.

seems like a normal tortoise, nothing exotic... so can just put her back into the natural habitat?

Amboina box turtle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looks like a Malayan Box Turtle. Just like the one I saw. You should probably release it near a natural stream.

You will find one such place turning into Old Upper Thomson Road from Upper Thomson Road (left turn at the junction of Upper Thomson Road and AMK Avenue 1.

The marshy area is on the left, off the road.

Old Upper Thomson Road Singapore - Google Maps

That's where I spotted the one I spoke of earlier.

Can anyone advise on where to release my pet terrapins? I got them when they were the size of a small palm. 4 yers later, they have outgrown the tank and i feel that it is terrible to keep them in a small enclosure. But i'm worried about them not being able to find food if i were to release them. Where will be a good place where food is plentiful? Thanks all!

Please do not release non-native species. They won't survive mostly. On the off chance that they do, they may disrupt the local ecosystem.

Terrapins can and do outlive their masters - they live to be as old as 30, often more. Find them someone who will take em in instead of releasing em.
