Japanese Spitz ~WindzStriker~ Jun 24th, 09, 10:57 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi all dog owners,

I just started researching more on Japanese Spitz which I decided to get soon.

Well the normal things like its history, health and temperament can be easily found on those doggy website.

1) I would like to find out what is the market price of JS now ? Briefly look thru all the old threads on JS, its like 1k - 1.9k ?

2) I have been to Pasir Ris farmway once, however that time was for voluntary work to take care of the pets there, thus never really take a look at dogs there. How many farms/shops are there that sells dogs at Pasir Ris farmway ? Find one day I will drive there to have a look.

3) Dogs sold in those farms tend to be cheaper then those in shops like pets safari ? pardon me if I am wrong

4) What are the pros and cons of getting from farms ?

If anyone know of anyone letting go of their JS for adoption, do let me know ya.

Well, I am very new to dogs, meanwhile will do my best to learn as much as possible. Hope to get support frm you guys if I need answers. Thanks.

1.) I bought mine at 1.6k
2.) There are quite alot of farms. 1 whole long driveway. I think maybe about 10-15?
3.) Yes definitely. Pet safari sells everything overpriced.
4.) No cons actually. You get to choose the dog you want, People working there are very friendly. They teach you how to take care of your dog if you're a first timer and you can always call them back to inquire about anything.

Yup I went to Pasir Ris Farmway past weekend.

Most of them are local breed. One person from a particular quote me this price, another from the same shop quote me a different price, more den the original quote by $200 of the same dog. I guess they see people one...

The owner will always say, although its local breed, their parents are from overseas, well, I know all these words cant be trusted, they only say this to make you happy and buy from them (although it might be true :p)

Actually although I read thru website, I want to hear from owners that have dogs to tell me the main difference between a purebred (with SKC cert) and our local breed... Someone pls advise...

Prices vary. I think it depends on the shop themselves. I just bought mine from Joy Doggy at S$2300 yesterday. Its imported from Australia with all the necessary papers.

Whilst hunting for the spitz, I made alot of calls and went to alot of farms and shops. Some quoted as high as 3k for Australian bred. Local bred are cheaper and quoted below 1.5K but it depends on what you want lor.

My worst experience was at Soo Kee Kennel. She wanted to sell me a locally bred maltese at 2k plus and told me that an imported spitz will cost abt 4k -5k...... (daylight robbery)

My choice was not based on its origin. It was based on the affection between the dogs we viewed and my 2 gals. We decided that it must be love at first sight from both party (dog and human) that decide on which one to pick..

got my spitz earlier this year from a pet shop in serangoon north for $1.1k, taiwanese breed with SKC cert and all. think the shop's name is Happy Paws. Owner Steven is a nice chap, and has some lovely puppies. i still visit his shop every once in a while though i live out in bukit timah. you can do a google search, shop has a website which is quite up to date on the puppies they have available.

i'd say go for it. spitz can be quite temperamental in general and may take a while to socialise with other animals, especially if you have other animals in the household. luckily for me, mine is ultra-friendly (too friendly in fact), and gets along very well with my other border collie pup.

Hey...

haha, I saw 2 Japanese Spitz early this year, scarly the one you got is the one i saw...lol
I didnt get them cause one seems to look very yellow, JS shld be pure white...

the shop owners look alittle ah beng leh

Anyway most important is the health of the puppies, how is your JS now ? any problem (touch wood) since you got them from Happy Paws ?

$1.1K is quite cheap consider its a pet shop somemore, even pasir ris charge ppl $1.6K...with NO cert... -_-"

did you bargain with the owner ?

for small pets like hamsters i think no point, but dogs are pretty expensive.

can't remember it's for adoption or for sale though, most likely adoption since the fee is in the hundreds.
