Mr & Mrs NightRaven Hammie StartUp Guide! For New Hamster/s owners! NightRaven May 5th, 06, 02:37 PM #1 (permalink)
Copyright 2006 NightRaven@Vr-Zone

Here are some of the stuff we use for our own hammies! all have been tested over a few years and so we know they're safe for hammies! plus! they're cheap cheap and easy to get!

1) Cage/Container
Mr: Habitrail Safari. $30+++ add ons and tunnel tubes available! its a world reknown brand for hammies or mice~! highly recommended by quite a number of hamster books~
- Toyogo plastic multi purpose storage containers. abt 15 to 20 bucks. quite big and with wheel
- fish tank. not too bad as well but a little heavy imo.

Mrs: Plastic Container, those toyogo ones~ abt 5 to 10 gallon ones. those multipurpose ones~ cheap and easy to find! used to put toys and stuff. can get that but usually it dosent come with a wheel or second deck. good thing also is the bedding dun get out when hammies burrow! but another thing is the draft free air. could be good or bad. bad when it gets too hot! so if ur place is warm best to go for grill cages.

2) Bedding
Mr: Dr Harry's cat litter. made of recycled paper. little dust, light very absorbent and able to hold smells in pretty well! good for u as u dun have to change so often good for the hammie as less dust, cleaner env w/o strong smells of pee! only thing owner might not like the colour!

Dr Harry's Review here!!!!: Bedding Quick Review: Dr Harry's Recycled Paper Bedding/Cat Litter

Dad and Dr Harry's bedding Sample

Mrs: Woody Pets Wood Shavings by Allspan Corp. $1.90 for 1kg. world reknown wood shavings company. 50% pine and 50% whitewoods. softer and more comfy than delikate wood shavings! shavings sizes and texture are roughly the same as delikate. also the one or 2 sharp pieces and some dust will be present.

Woody Pets Shavings

Other beddings include corn cob, recycled paper bedding such as back-2-nature, dr harry's and breeder's celect, aspen wood bedding, etc. dr harry's or breeder's celect is highly recommended now instead of shavings. now adays owners usually recommend such bedding it goes for 5.90 to $7 per 10l. Since cedar bedding IS dangerous for hammies. However, many do not go for recycled paper as it is of a much higher price. Sluis is also another good brand of wood shavings from pet lovers centre.1kg for $3 or so.

Wood Shavings review here: [Hamster] My Review of 2 wood shavings~!,

3) Food
Mr: Brown's Banquet Hamster/Gerbil Mix. 1kg for $8 or so. pretty good and balanced! just be sure not to add too much fruit as too much for hammies also not good! extra fruit must be limited as well! (good pet stores)

2) Brown's Encore Haster/Gerbil mix. Buy the bigger pack if u have more than 3 hammies. more worth it. roughly same as Banquet but i find tt better still.

Mrs: Habitrail Hamster Mix. 1kg for $4 of so. no fruits in this one! but its also pretty balanced and either way the hammies will eat de la! (many pet stores)

2) Brown's Nutrition Plus! Cheap and good! comes in a big pack for a small price! balanced nutrition as well.

Brown's Banquet Hamster Mix

Brown's Encore Hamster Mix (its 13.50 hor!)

Other good foods will be like Prestige, Marukan, Brown's Encore, etc. fresh food like cabbage and stuff can also be given to them. vitamin drops for hammies in water too~

4) Hideout/ Toys/ Accessories
Mr: Marukan Dwarf Hamster Hideout. In different colours its abt $7.50. ceramique one. for toys a simple toilet roll, some tunnel tubes which my habitrail can support and an exercise ball plus a ladder for them to play. Superpet Exercise Ball for dwarves for abt $9.

Mrs: Exercise Wheel box for hideout, etc. toilet roll and others. yet they are as happy as they are! Superpet Exercise Ball for dwarves for abt $9.

There are lots of other play stuff for hammies u can buy from pet stores!

5) Bath/ Toilet Sand
Mr: MS.pets apple scented bath sand for BATH. and QueFeng Sand for toilet from QueFeng Pet Shop in Serangoon North. see sand review thread for more info. abt $5 to 7 bucks for 1kg of ms pets. and 13 bucks for 2kg of QueFeng. highly recommended is QueFeng sand!

Mrs: Ms.pet lavender scented bath sand. we both use the bath and toilet containers below. cost abt 6 to 9 dollars.

Sand review here: [Hamster] My Review on 3 sands!~

6) Treats/ Misc
1)Delikate Yogurt Drops and Nut Sticks. My hammies like Vegetable sticks more thou u can try fruit sticks or honey sticks too!

2)Delikate Vita Drips 50ml for $6.50 for all small animals. Vitamins!

3)Marukan Milk Crossiant~! $5.50 for 25 pieces. good for the teeth!

Accessories and stuff i use. Clockwise from top left.
QueFeng Sand, Brown's Banquet, Delikate Vegetable Sticks, Marukan Milk Cheese Crossiant, Marukan Egg Milk Biscuits, Delikate Daily Vitamin Supplements, Delikate Yogurt Drops.

usually once they're over 33+++ degrees..they would try to lay flat to cool themselves down..if nothing is done to cool..heatstoke...and they'd die real quick

Keeping 2 Different Breeds of Hammies Together? perpetiel May 13th, 06, 12:44 AM #5 (permalink)
Hi hi, not sure if this is the right thread to post but here's a noobie question:

Is it alright to house 2 different breeds of hammies together, say a syrian and a dwarf (same sex)? Any consequences?

P.S Not to breed them of course but as companions

haha thats no good actually.. very bad for the hammie.. usually we'll leave till they eat.. its hard love but they need a balanced diet~

u can tell the diff by the fur, the eyes, and the colour when a balanced diet is around~
