[Project Log]Black Square Redesign Kozato Mar 14th, 09, 10:01 PM #1 (permalink)
My first project, Black Square ended in this form:

But I wasn't happy enough with the results. Half of the psu sticking out to accommodate the radiator, wtf? And I have some airflow and cable management issues with the casing. And after getting poisoned by the bros here and XS forums, I have got myself a Silverstone TJ-07 and decided to restart the project.

With this restart, it will be named: Black Square Redesign

Specs of my pc:

CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q9550
Mobo: DFI Lanparty LT X48 T2R (Thanks to Bro Ken aka. Sabe for this)
Rams: Team Xtreem Dark 2x2GB DDR2-1066
GFX: Powercolor 4870x2 2GB
HDD: Velociraptor 150GB + Seagate 7200.11 1.5TB
Soundcard: Auzentech Xplosion 7.1 Gold

So what can you expect?

Murdermod style modding. Inverted ATX, Individually sleeved power cables and of course, watercooling.

I started with the sleeving:

And another mod I thought that was nice to do, the top window mod. But this is just a prototype. My dimensions are off and so I am gonna recut another piece of top window and the top window mount.

Off goes the top mesh

Here comes the new window (don't mind the fingerprints)

The mesh vs. The window

Installed on my TJ-07 for a test fit

Case mod 2: The custom plates

28/03/2009

I decided to get off my lazy ass and drill the holes to test mount the custom plates after getting them corrected before I send them for powdercoating/anodizing.

Inverted ATX galore:

The mid plate:

The faceplate:

I also updated the top window with my design:

updates:

I got my casing back from powdercoating. I assembled the parts together and also did some wiring for the led switch and also some sleevings and cable management.

I managed to put my system together while waiting for my EK NB wb. And being a lazy bum, I haven't got down to sleeving all the cables I see.

And I have a very bad kink:

I also noticed I placed the T-line wrongly. (It's inline with the pump's outlet!)

Due to the bad kink and the badly placed T-line, I am getting some terrible temps. (Q9550 49 DEG@Idle 70 DEG@Load)

I will be replacing all the compression fittings with 1/2" bitspower barbs, change all my tubings from 1/2"ID 5/8"OD to 1/2"ID 3/4"OD when my EK northbridge block comes.

Anyways, I have some night shots:

Man, I can't believe that my estimation of the fillet for the top hole was perfect! All I need to do now is to cut a new window that is approximately 1.5mm longer and a new window mount that has the mounting holes properly aligned.

Updates:

My custom plates are here! Will post photos of them tomorrow morning though.

How they looked like when I was drawing them in autocad:

But unfortunately, the text are changed, especially on the faceplate and I need to trim the faceplate to get it to fit on my 5.25" bays.

Actually I have already taken it off, but the DFI board gives me such a small spacing between the DIMM slots and the graphics card such that I can't even install the cooler.
