Spraying Casing.. BlackArt Apr 4th, 09, 12:18 PM #1 (permalink)
Planing to spray the interior of my Casing to Flat-Black..

gonna use those $3.50 spray-paint front home , DIY hardware shops..

but since this is my first time spraying a casing , what else is needed to do after spraying?

or just spray it, leave it to dry and thats it?

You need a primer before painting.

best is to sand away the original paint from the case till u see metal. After that, apply 2-3 coats of light primer. Then start to spray the colour that u like. always apply in light coats or the paint will form pools.

use paint remover..remove the original paint..remeber to use gloves..
then sanpaper those stuborn to remove paints..
add 2 layers or primer(brown colour or white)
then add around 3 to 4 light coats of the colour you want
make sure the first layer paint is fully dry then u paint the second..
its best to piant indoors..not much air but u may need need some light for heating(to prevent the orange peel..)

basically i doubt urs is bare steel, since it will rust. There should be a layer of primer applied by the manufacturer, which u will need to sand down.

i would recommend u to spray primer with 2-3coats after u sand down the casing, then leave it alone for around 1 week.

After one week, start doing some light sanding to the primer, just so that the paint will have a better grip on the surface.
