Worklog: X500FX SLI, Watercool & Acoustic K-Dash Dec 29th, 10, 03:24 PM #1

Hi mates,

I start my very first worklog here at VRZ on this same thread with upgrading of my air cool rig, the previous exposure left me seeking for more. I did reading up from various guides & youtubes on watercooling which triggers my interest to further this hobby of mine to the next level.

All these while I have been admiring at other's work, figured i might as well share my progess & journey along with some reviews. I have purchased a Cannon Powershot S90 that comes with macro shot for this worklog.

Think hg_wng meant my previous build as that is the least i can show for now as the new casing might take another 2 weeks.

I already sold it to someone who can't agree more that it is a real steal.
When I first set eyes on the upcoming Lian Li case, I was mesmerized by the classic look, its the same reason why I choose FT02 the 1st place. Then I probe my wife & she agreed to let me go ahead with my craze, however the catch is to sell off FT02 as PC stuffs are choking our storage space at home.

I got alot of enquiries coming in the minute I posted it up for sale, that is when I ask myself if the price I set was too low. lol
Silverstone FT02B-W Alu Casing (Black + Window)

When I call my wife & told her the FT02 was immediately sold the 5th hour I posted up. She was shocked & at the same time regretted in asking me to sell it off as the 3D carbon fiber vinyl was done by both of us, something memorable. I have to honor the great buyer for the deal & went ahead with the deal with further discount as he is self collecting from the other part of the island.

Just saw the thread and I agree it's a very good deal, what a lucky buyer. I would dare to say this is the most unique FT02 in SG so far

omg.. you read my mind

Will see how things goes after all components are in.

Alright, I recieved a package other day when I arrived home from work, rather tired. So its some cold beer to cool myself down while opening the package.

Felt kinda drunk as I took a closer look at the coaster. Maybe I should get some plain water to sober up.

I quickly took up the package and examine thoroughly & thats when I realise it's from Nils!

Now the goodies inside the package

Maybe I ordered too much just for touching up some sleeves & the yet arrived casing. lol

Kudos to all who are following my humble thread & a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!!

For all the components you are using, why don't bump up to an i7 instead?

I have a budget of $2000 when I was assemble the system back in Jan 2010, will hold for now till Ivy Bridge & see if its good.

Been busy lately working things out with epic store for some engraving stuffs. Daniel is a great guy, easy to work with once you provided the neccessary details. He runs a CNC & can do quite abit of customisations. Feel free to take a look at his online store.

Hi guys,

Time for some updates, sorry for the delay as I have been busy doing research on new hardwares/assesories.

I have replaced 4x2Gb OCZ 1600Mhz CL8 XMP to a new set of memories, Gskill Trident 2x4Gb 1600Mhz CL7. I only hear good things about this, hope this will serve me well. I have read on the web that running on 2 sticks instead of 4 actually increases the performance, some actually able to achieve 3.6Ghz & turbo boost 4.2Ghz.

Swapping out my trusty True Black to Venomous X black. I am able to run 4Ghz prime 73degrees with MX-3 on True Black. Hope this won't dissapoint me.
Venomous X is also smaller in width which helps to solve my problem of soundcard touching the fins of True Black. I have fitted it with MX-3 as well.
Some tips on MX-3, it is the best non-conducive thermal compound I have come across with but you can't keep it pass a month as it tends to get real sticky & I mean really sticky which is not possible to apply the moment you open the pack & that explains why it only comes in small tubes. I only used up 1.5 tube of the 3 tubes I have bought in total.

The Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro which I have modified to clear some space for the screws behind the graphics card previously as the heatsink was Prolimatech MK-13. This will be swapped out as well.

Have already mounted AC Accelero Xtreme 5870 on both ASUS EAH5870 using MX-3 & Akasa Thermal Tape. I have retained the original backplate to enhance the look, though I have read some comments of it restricting heat dissipation but on this case its definitely looks over this tiny bit of loss.

A little something that I have done on the card & this will be taken out later as it was meant to match the 3D Carbon Fiber Vinyl I have done on my previous casing.

Done some sleeving on the sata cables, still doing on the sata power, molex & new 24pin from the new PSU.

I will explain later as to why I will be skipping on SandyBridge & not getting I7 based on my scenerio. Last week have been good as I have got some hardwares for quite a good price from SLS, will update u guys when the photos are ready. I still have quite an amount of sleeving to do & my casing will only arrive on end of Feb, some things are hard to visualize thus takes longer to think. Thanks for watching guys!
