Gigabyte 965 "DS3" VMCH and VDimm Mods. kunaak Jul 29th, 06, 11:06 AM #1 (permalink)
with the help of shamino, we came up with a few mods for this board.
still trying to find the Vdroop mod... and maybe the VFSB mod, but these two mods here are confirmed to be working by me, as I been using them for about a week now.

MCH volts at stock should read 1.2 volts or close, when at default bios settings.
when volt modded, you should get about .03 volts higher at it's max resistance.

Vdimm volts should read about 1.85 volts when at its default bios setting.
with the mod, it should read about .06 volts higher then that.

I've had the MCH to 1.7 volts, and the vdimm to 2.75 volts so far, and theres no real draw back to these mods.
sometimes volt mods, will make boards start acting weird. I haven't had any side effect to these mods yet, other then higher overclockability

also, there seems to be a interesting side effect to setting the MCH voltage to 1.55 volts or higher...
it will boot almost 100% of the time.
for some reason, that drastically changes the boards ability to recover from a failed OC.

with the MCH mod, definatly have active cooling on your northbridge.

will post other mods, if we find them.

if you guys find them, please share
droop mod is needed badly for this board.

Thanks Shamino,

i was testing mch at 1.67Volt but no luck for increasing FSB from 433Mhz .
I also testet with Multi 6 but the same Problem.

My Rig:

Motherboard: DS3
RAM: Mushkin Redline DDR2-1000
cpu: e6300 Retail
Cooling : Single Stage
Powersupply: Enermax 600
Bios: F4a
Chipset Cooling: Aktiv 80mm Fan
HDD: 40Gb IDE
7900GTX

Max FSB from Bios for Boot ist 433Mhz
Max FSB in Windows is 433Mhz
RAM Settings:4-5-4-11
I also testet all diffrent settings in the Tweaker Section

Maybe it is a Problem from the IDE Drive (test with SATA)
Or the Powersupply.
Or RAM Compatibility

Any Idea ???

Yes RAM is 1:1

I install XP on Sata now no change !

I also testet PCIE to 101-108 Mhz no change !

Vfsb +0,1 no Change

no USB device (also off in Bios )

With Easy Tune is the same FSB 434 an the PC is freezing

I also Test with a new Powersupply no Change

It must be the Board or the Memory Mushkin Redline DDR2-1000

sorry it took me a few days to get back to you on this.
I saw this mod a few days ago, when I was at the library, then basically ran home to get this mod done, haha... and it works perfect for me for the last few days.

you always have permission to use anything of mine you want.
you've helped me many times over the years, and I will always return the favor when I can

yeah i dunno, i have E6400 + Corsair 8000UL + DS3 ...

hitting a fsb wall at 430fsb, settings below:

CORE 1.5v
MEmory +0.4v
GMCH +0.3v
FSB: +0.1v
PCI-E auto, tried 100, 105, 115, 110 no help
fdsb : dram 1:1 or fsb : ddr2 1:2

RAM is 4-4-4-9 in BIOS, i tested this RAM with pentium d b4 i got conroe, it was able to run at 970Mhz with 4-4-4-9, can get 4-4-3-4 under windows using memset

i have tried increase vfsb didnt help OC higher at all ...

any thoiughts, tips??

also this mod looks confusing, how exactly is the MCH mod done??

or maybe i should try DDR2 800 RAM?? cuz al lthe high fsb i have seen on thisboard were done on good DDR2 800 RAM, maybe thats why?? .... damn i am stuck in this fsb wall
