Hope dmspawn don't mind if I continue with this X386-DQ6 thread.

Got the X386-DQ6 from Bell. Paid $479 for the board only as I have the QX6850 at home (which is SRP $489 less 2% discount for cash).

Board packaging looks good. Every bit as good as the Stiker Extreme package (well, I took out the SE box because I need to RMA the board). The board looks a bit like the N680SLI-DQ6 box with the multi-coloured printing. I have the N680SLI-DQ6 board because I borrowed a SE board from my colleague, who bought the N680SLI-DQ6 after he had the CPU INIT issue... he was running SLI so he had to use the Nvidia 680i chipset. Surprisingly, I manage to 'resurrect' his SE with a cheap DDR-667 memory stick (oh.. he put the SE in the N680SLI-DQ6 board when he loan it to me).

Installing WinXP (32 bit) was surprisingly easy as I didn't have to use the F6 key to load the drivers during installation. I did have to set the SATA ports to IDE mode rather than RAID/AHCP mode in BIOS. Presumably, all I need to do now is to set it to RAID in BIOS now (I had BSOD when I tried installing WinXP with RAID mode initially).

As some of you know, I had problems installing all the stuff onto my Torture Rack (TR). Now, I appreciate the design of the TR by putting the board on top. It is so easy to do a simple set-up and then add the other components in. Right now, I have th IFX-14 just sitting on the CPU without being bolted down, and I could get quite good temperatures. Oh... I was using the Shin-Etsu thermal paste on my IFX-14 on my old SE board, and I didn't wipe it off. Seems that the Shin-Etsu is still thick enough for me to just sit the IFX-14 on the CPU without bolting it down.

On the IFX-14, I managed to install the backplate on the X38-DQ6 without removing the Crazy Cool backplate. I install the IFX-14 backplate over the CC backplate, and the nuts/screws were long enough for me to attach the 775 mounting bracket (Note: The Torture Rack is too small to mount the backplate heatsink).

So far, I am quite happy with the X38-DQ6. Some minor quibles though. First, compare to the SE, there is no onboard LED light, so I didn't know if my PSU is left on or not. Second, the onboard USB and 1394 headers (USB1 and USB2) is quite near to the last PCI slot. I intend to put a Creative X-Fi sound card there, and there is very little room for the USB and 1394 connectors.

So much for now. This note is typed using the new X38-DQ6 board. Right now, I have cables all over the place, so I won't be attaching any photos yet. After I have done some cable management and figure out how to get 2 of the fans to work on the Copanel (the bottom 4 fans are fine.... the top 2 seems not to have any power), plus putting in some bling, I'll put up some photos. Once done, I may even attempt (*gasp*) to do some benching.
