A POLYTECHNIC student admitted yesterday to driving his father's car off Old Upper Thompson Road earlier this year in a horrific accident that killed two friends.
Phua Jia Chee, 20, pleaded guilty in a district court to causing the death of the pair and injuring another friend in the Jan 29 crash.
The Republic Polytechnic student now faces the prospect of a jail term and a fine.
Nanyang Polytechnic students David Li, 18, and Mervin Teo, 19, were killed when the Mitsubishi Lancer Phua was driving careened off Old Upper Thompson Road. The car plunged down a 1m embankment before hitting some trees.
Mr Li died on the spot, while Mr Teo succumbed the next day in hospital.
Front-seat passenger Tan Han Leng, 20, injured his left hand and had to undergo minor surgery.
Phua suffered only minor injuries. Standing silent in the dock yesterday, he stared blankly as Assistant Public Prosecutor Ong Yew Kwang told the court what happened that fateful day.
District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim postponed Phua's sentencing till Dec 17 to give his lawyer time to prepare his arguments.
