RULES - READ BEFORE YOU POST! floppy Sep 21st, 05, 02:23 AM #1 (permalink)
Due to the recent surge of users in the Garage Sales, the administrative team has come up with some rules that all users should adhere to when using Garage Sales:
  • NO EXTERNAL LINKS TO SITES THAT YOU OWN, OR ANY ONLINE STORES, ONLINE BUSINESSES ETC. ARE ALLOWED.
  • EXTERNAL LINKS ARE ONLY ALLOWED FOR THE PURPOSES OF SHOWING INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRODUCT (e.g. manufacturer's website listing specifications, 3rd party review). THIS DOES NOT SUPERSEDE THE ABOVE RULE.
  • Each Member is entitled to a maximum of TWO active sales threads at any time, in all subforums and the main forum of garage sales combined. Members caught violating the rules will have their excess threads above this limit will be merged or deleted.
  • Users are advised to close threads when the transaction is complete/all items in the thread have been sold to signify that the thread is no longer active.
  • The main forum is only for IT related products that do not fall into any of the subforums. Non IT-related products are to be placed in the Miscellaneous Items subforum!
  • Duplicate threads for the same item(s) are not allowed.
  • All threads should be tagged using the title function when creating the thread:
    Quote:
    [WTS] (Want to Sell)
    [WTT] (Want to Trade)
    [WTB] (Want to Buy)
  • If you are unsure whether you wish to sell/buy the item, notify others in advance by using MWTS, MWTB, MWTT (Might want to).
  • The opening post should state clearly what you have for sale. A recommended format is as follows:

    Quote:
    Product Brand/Model:
    Manufacturer's Warranty: {also state if no warranty remaining. is proof of purchase needed/included?}
    Description: {preferably with images of the actual item}
    Condition: {scratched? some functions not working? age?}

    Price Originally Purchased At:
    Estimated Current Retail Price (brand new):

    User's real name:
    Contact No/Email address: {if not contacting through PM}
    Preferred Location/Time: {if not contacting through PM}
    Additional Information: {Like reason for selling...}

    Reservation Price (RP):
    Buy Now Price (BNP):

    {to be updated during bidding process}
    Start Bid:
    Current Bid: {state name of bidder and amount} e.g. TanAhKow $50
  • Threads with ambiguous titles will be locked without notice.
  • State the currency if a currency other than SGD is being used.
  • Deals are considered to be tentatively closed when the seller and buyer have agreed on the item(s), price, exchanged their contact details and set a date/time/place for the transaction to take place.
  • Sellers/buyers are advised to state publicly in the sales thread that a deal has been tentatively agreed on.
  • If either of the parties wishes to change the date/time/place, or has decided not to carry on with the transaction, he is advised to inform the other party ASAP, minimum two hours in advance. If either party does not show up at the agreed date/time/place without prior notification then the tentative agreement may be considered to be void.
  • Disclaimer: As much as the administrators will like to protect the interest of all our forums members, we will not be responsible for any losses arising from the use of the garage sales. Users are to engage in transactions with other forum members at their own risk.

The following will be deleted without notice to threadstarters:
- Threads that are irrelevant to the Garage Sales forum and subforums (e.g. question threads, MO threads, bulk sales thread, etc)
- Duplicate/double-posted threads
- Threads with external links
- Complaint threads - post these here
- Threads which have been posted in the wrong forum (i.e. mobile phone sales in notebook sales forum)
- Whatever thread the admins/moderators deems unfit to remain here will be removed. do not question the authority of the moderator, or you will be removed along with your thread as well.
- Threads with excessive bumps will be locked without notice, at the discretion of our moderators. Minimum interval between bumps is 6 hours.
Thanks to Spirax for helping to write some of these rules!

Buyer & Seller should also confirm any deal, preferable within/before 1-2 day to prevent any changes or destructive to the on-going bidding process.

Fly-kite situation stand for those who agreed to meet up, but last minutes cancel leaving buyer/seller out in the open.
That why, when seller/buyer ask for date/time/location, do considered whether u really want to deal.

Buyer kindly call the person urgently if there any changes of location/time at least 2hr in advance.
Seller kindly call/sms the person to confirm the location/time again before moving out to meet him.

Finally save the earth by supporting recycled products, dude!
I thought I wrote 95% of the above guidelines, why no credit to me...
Also more important save the earth by supporting recycled products, dude!

Forums in Garage Sales are not encourage to be edited or deleted so as to ensure the integrity of the sale, & in the case of serious cheating, case report can be filed to the authorities accordingly.
Thread-Starter can closed by locking his own thread with the 'edit button' on his last post.

It is also better if the thread starter try to clear all the "ups" using smilies.
It will make your thread looks better and nice instead of using smilies just for up (you can use for one or two, but if all 3 pages smilies are all yours then it is useless).

Because we are not HWZ which using posts count to get high position (member, senior member, etc.) here all peoples are the same (except the admin, smod & mod).

Also all successful or unsuccessful thread shall be closed by thread-starter.

How about the reserved of using RP (reserved price) and BNP (buy now price)

When the RP is reached, buyers should refrain from bidding the item unless it jumps to the BNP. This will prevent bidder to get outbid by merely few cents, since the bidder already indicates to agree with the price reserved by the seller

Seller is encourage to sell the item at RP, if the intention is true to let go at the price. His chances to get the higher price is only when somebody offer for BNP.

As such, the RP and BNP is useful to be put in the sale description.

Maybe we have a template for all threads made in computer garage like on top?
This would be useful and everyone thread would be standardised. Like the title we can have the options

WTS WTB

Then we click the words and type our titles. THis is also useful for ppl who miss the thread

Thanked 1 Times in 1 Post
All the standard auction terms Ideasmiths Jul 27th, 06, 03:11 PM #9 (permalink)
As in most auction, there are certain terms to prevent sellers or buyers from being taken advantage of. For example, there was a local case where a foreign guy bid $1 and won a car from the dealer, because the employee just advertised the car without putting in 'protection'.

From my understanding.

If there is no terms, then whoever bid the highest wins.

If there is a RP (ie reserve price), then the seller 'reserve' the right not to sell unless this price is crossed. It does not mean that once this price is bid, the item is reserved to that guy. Others can continue to bid higher than the RP

When there is a BNP (ie Buy Now Price), then if the buyer bid at this price, he buys the item.

Hi floppy!

What about people who announced they have stuff for SALE
& then tell you that you are now the 2nd bidder,
even when up to that point when you made a purchase,
no one else had shown interest?

Problem:
It is a Sales & not an auction.

What to do about such sellers?
