Agree... But for 10Mbps Fixed Line broadband onwards, M1 will also be the cheapest at $40 with decent quality surfing..

Hmm disagree... Singtel has the most expensive roaming rates around and those charges displayed on their website exclude re-routed call charges + miscellaneous surcharges..

M1 and SH have better roaming rates and have many roaming partners as well.. Those rates displayed on their websites are the final price you are going to pay... + 20% surcharge for Pay-Per-Use..

Hi,

Just to ask about the mobile phone plans.

Does M1 mobile phone has probs like SH? Like the reception part where you have to call someone or sms someone before you actually receive your sms.

i thought this problem is caused by phone and not operators? i'm a M1 user, my previous phone N95 8gb have no problem with it. until i get N97 then sometimes i have the problem you mentioned

M1 reception and network is generally very good... Lag of sms could be due to handset issue too...

SMS delays are random but it normally only happens when an SMS is sent from one telco subscriber to another. Like M1 to SingTel or Starhub to M1 etc.

It can't be helped because the SMS has to make a jump from the SMSC of the originating telco to that of the target telco and depending on how the queues are implemented there can be delays especially during high load situations.

In terms of coverage, SingTel has the best coverage and M1 and Starhub have about the same. Most users won't notice this unless you live in an area where the coverage is spotty.

Lastly, using an iPhone with M1 or Starhub will result in decreased battery life because the phone will constantly have to boost its signal to get a good reception. One of the reasons why Apple chose SingTel as their launch partner.

i changed from starhub to singtel last year, but i dont feel this is the case. on the green mrt line, i get more signal problem than starhub. i am using the same phone. and the signal switch between 3G to 2G to 3G to 2G continuously in train, can be quite annoying... i just wonder if anyone has the same problem.

The reason why Singtel was chosen was cuz they own several telcos around Asia. So Singtel was the natural choice for iPhone lo.. Nothing to do with the reception de...

And ST reception has recently not been top-notch.. I do have friends who do not have a single bar of ST reception at home but yet decent reception from M1 and SH.

And another friend actually experienced much better reception after he switched to M1 from ST but using the SAME iPhone! (The iPhone wasn't bought from ST btw... ST sets are sim-locked so M1 and SH users can't use )

imo,

m1 = reception
starhub = price
singtel = promotion + service.

was using m1 for nearly 10 years and i dumped them for singtel due to bad customer service.

starhub is well known for their poor reception and they earn their share of pie in the market by being the first to offer free incoming which generally attract students. their promotion do offer interesting prices and rewards.

m1 basically have 0 promotions and their sunperk reward list shrunk throughout the years. worst is that they flush the points so often that unless you're on business plan, you probably have a very low or no chance to exchange. however, throughout my usage on m1, the reception is definitely above average. there is a very low chance to be caught with no signal.

singtel offers the most promotion from what i seen. birthday perks, occassion follow up, price promotion.
but i have some issue with the reception.. not very sure if it is my phone's problem.

iPhones sold in Singapore are not SIM locked.
