The walk

We started from Harbourfront MRT at around 4.15pm. This is one of the signboards showing the layout of the Southern Ridges, with walking trails connecting parks in the area.

We crossed a small drain to enter the trail, which is at the bottom of Mount Faber.

Here is a direction post showing relative locations of areas.

The trail is clearly marked even on the ground. You would have to be an absolute moron to get yourself lost on the trail!

A signboard showing housekeeping and safety precaution when entering the trail and the park area.

As we were going up to Mount Faber, the trail is naturally an upward path, but with gentle steps to let us catch our breath.

Another signboard showing directions.

When we almost reached the peak of Mount Faber, the going became easier with nicely decorated landscape as eye candy.

Only when we reached the top of the trail did we realise that the name of the trail is “Marang Trail”.

The top of the trail also runs parallel to the one-way roadway that brings vehicles up Mount Faber.

At this level, we could already see breath-taking views, including the harbour and the dangling cable cars above the sea.

A zoomed-in view also shows the nearby Keppel Bridge that links to Keppel Island.

Towards land-side, we also catch a panoramic view of nearby housing estates in the Telok Blangah area.

Although obscured with rain clouds, we could still see Raffles Place at the right of the picture below.

Again, there is clear direction marking on the path to guide us towards Henderson Waves.

At the peak of Mount Faber, vehicles continue on downward via the Mount Faber Loop.

Even an SBS bus brings workers and tourists up to Mount Faber, unexpectedly.

Another clear signboard showing that we are close to Henderson Waves.

Finally, the entrance to Henderson Waves is marked with a route map signboard and some bollards preventing entry of vehicles.

The entrance into the bridge area is also marked with a plaque.

By the time we reached the entrance to the bridge deck, the rain had stopped.

Here is a view of the waves of the Henderson Pedestrian Bridge!

The resting area at the side of the bridge is an architectural master piece with curved profiles and arches.

This is what it would look like if you peered out the side of the 37m high bridge.

Another view of what is below the bridge.

The bridge deck, constructed of timber strips, is still impressive despite the wetness cause by the rain.

The self-explanatory picture shows how the bridge gets its name.

At the opposite side of the bridge, a large signboard introduces the various key points of the area.

The direction signs on the path clearly show what is to come after the Henderson Waves.

Another signboard shows clear directions.

Despite its proximity to vehicles and buildings, this park is also frequented by monkeys.

A road sign in the park.

Though not outstandingly golden or breath-taking, we do get nice sunset scenes up here.

Entering the Forest Top walk, we realised we were suspended way above the ground on a galvanised steel frame bridge with the decking installed with geometrically pleasant grilles.

It is quite a drop from the upper deck of the bridge to the lower levels.

Turning points of the Forest Top Walk also include some sort of rest area with a wider deck to accommodate the crowd.

This is what the Forest Top Walk looks like from the side elevation.

Direction signboard on the deck not only shows directions but also the distance to the next point of destination.

When we came out to Preston Road, we saw some quaint colonial-time bungalows, now presumably rented by some high-flying expatriates.

With the sun rapidly setting and my cheap camera increasingly incapable of capturing low light conditions, I attempted this last shot of sunset.

This signboard shows what awaits us at the end of the Tree Top Walk.

We could see glimpses of the Alexandra Arch beyond, gracefully spanning Alexandra Road.

Another architectural marvel.

This is the deck of the Alexandra Arch with lights turned on.

The lighting display of the Alexandra Arch is also another mesmerising event.

Beyond the Alexandra Arch is the Hort Park, a unique gathering of various type of plants and flowers.

Another signboard giving clear directions.
