acer is good for performance and quality. but have to depend on which model u choose. dell is purely no quality.

asus is quality, but no performance. also very expensive

so if u want to buy, buy acer

I don't really like Dell's design at this point of time..

So I'll go with the Acer.. Unless you got more cash to spare, then go with Asus.

u compare this 3 brands..depends on which model against which model.

but for me i would choose asus, then acer, then dell. btw, asus all notebooks having 2 yr global warranty. meanwhile i don trust dell's warranty.

What I like about Asus is it's weight vs performance... it's able to obtain performance with lightweight...

Meanwhile, Acer is value for money. You pay less, you get more. Quality, not much comments.

I never liked Dell. So no comments.

HP - Compaq is good. After sales is good too.

if i nt wrong, core duo only works effectively for 64bit applications. for standard 32bit applications (now), it is not that effective.

Anyway Compaq HP hasnt' launched any Core Duo noteoboks yet at the moment. 1 notebook that fits your needs would b the B2800 series from Compaq. Comes with ATi X600 256MB HypMem..shud be enough for you. 14" BrightView Screen... and weight at 1.9kg

haha quite pricey to do a upgrade to 2gb...
considering 1x 1gb is more expensive than 2x 512mb..

u can put in 1x 1gb inside .. but it will lose out in terms of performance... ddr2 requires 2 ram stick to work well.. to obtain 2gb .. must do a 2 x 1gb

Asus good for design. But they specialize in motherboards not notebooks. If u say acer or dell they really do these kind of branded computers.
Acer better for features and design... Dell specs not that good. But price is reasonable. Their warranty also very complicated. Got some cheap models only 90 day warranty.
