Worth lapping a Core 2 Duo and its heatsink? tUx Feb 4th, 07, 09:48 AM #1

Wonder if it's worth lapping the IHS of a C2D, as well as the heatsink you are using? Understand we can look at a minimum of about 5°C drop in temperatures.

Considering the effort, the risk (?) and the void of warranty.

Dont waste time lapping, just take out the IHS .. Lap the HSF also can .. but serious not really worth it for that few deg of temp .. unless the temp differences is great

Ok...logic...ok...sorry if I am wrong. If you lap the C2D, voided your warranty and hard to resell...stuck with it for lifetime of the cpu. Unless you sell cheaply.
Get yourself a good cooler and you can sleep in peace.
Resale value in both ways not affected, as there is still warranty.
Good cooler can means Air or water cooling HS.

Not worth to do it ! Investing a good cooler is a real solution to everydays needs.

but i know for a fact that lapping c2d ihs or its hs not required at all... only for amd chips then need... cause the prev versions don have the aluminium heat spreader on* the core... only the chip itself... so the best contact is required to transfer the heat efficiently....

what you talking about amd chips need to be lapped and stuff?

no heat-spreader = better

direct contact with CORE therfore more efficient thermal transfer

a middle-man is not always good

some of the c2d ihs are concave, so contact is not even

quite a few ppl in xs acheive good results by lapping the ihs for c2d. if you afford to void warranty, why not

for amd ppl remove the ihs, very seldom ppl lapped it.

... i mean the hs u gonna put on the chip... i already say the amd chip no heat spreader..... ... need to lap the hs that u gonna use to ensure max contact surface...
