ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Simple Pencil Mods Shamino Aug 7th, 06, 04:59 PM #1

The ASUS P5W DH Deluxe is definitely a motherboard targeted
at the enthusiasts. It looks good, performs well and offers quite a fair bit of
overclocking features. Some of us, a more feverish group of enthusiasts like to
take matters into our own hands however. Like a free-lance artist roaming the streets,
I took my drawing pencil, this time round to the P5W DH.

Includes VMem, VMCH, VFSB and Vcore all modded with pencil!!

I measured Vdimn last night but it read ~70 ohms instead of 575 ohms and VMCH's at 400 ohms instead of 444 ohms???? Was I do something wrong??

How much does the VMCH mod help? Right now I am hitting a brick wall at 430mhz with VMCH set to 1.65. I've seen a few others hitting walls around 400-420.

Only other question I have is: Can this be done without A voltimeter/voltage meter? All the one's I have don't read that low. I know it's probably not suggested to do it without one however I'm willing to take a risk

Thanks

aggreed. best buy a multimeter and measure resistance. measuring voltage might be too late already

Alright in a few hours (it's 04:46 here) I'm going to go grab a multimeter at radio shack. I just searched the garage and found 2 and neither will work for reading voltages this low.

Will the stock cooling (with the crazy fan on the voltage regulators heatsink on) be enough or should I try to mod my Swiftech Premium 120 kit (I haven't used it yet, the Corsair Nautilus 500 kit is plenty) to fit the north bridge? Also, realistically, what should my expectations be for fsb speed? My goal from the time I ordered the E6400 was to hit 4 ghz, I'm stuck at 3.4 with the only limiting factor being the chipset voltage. Cpu running at 35*c full load at a mere 1.4125v. Brickwalled at 430mhz starting upping the chipset voltage around 390.

Also, is there a hacked bios that allows more than 450? A new clockgen that allows higher than 500?

P.S Shamino I love what you do, keep up the terrific work! I've been reading your articles for years and they only get better!
