Pioneer Blu-ray Combo BDC-S03XLB spotted tUx Sep 3rd, 09, 03:18 PM 1 links from elsewhere to this Post. Click to view. #1 (permalink)
Paging for all the Pioneer-whores in VRforums... Similar to Pioneer's S12, S16 and S17 DVD-RW drives, the BDC-S03XLB sports the same glossy piano black front bezel. The S03 series is also the first Blu-ray models from Pioneer with the piano-finish bezel.

This combo drive is not to be confused with Pioneer's Blu-ray writers which cost twice as much as this. Pioneer's Blu-ray readers/combo have models starting with 'BDC', while writers start 'BDR' - it can't get any simpler.

Anyway, back to topic, here's more information on the BDC-S03XLB.

The DVR-S17FXB is still available but as of now I think not many stores carry it locally (my guess is that its cost is slightly higher than the other brands).

The BD line is separate and just that the BDC/R-S03 takes on the same bezel design as the DVR-S17.

This model is going for $199 at Chamoxa's COMEX booth.

A bit gian for it... dunno if I should or not. Anybody has any reviews or experiences to share?

(PS: Amazon has some pretty nice BD titles on offer... that's one of the main reasons why I'm tempted. )

yeah got some titles from amazon myself. It reads blu-ray discs great and burns dvds just as fast as all the other competition. The free software is great cause at comex its $144 for powerdvd ultimate which is sooooooo expensive...

Nice drive. Bought at Chamoxa. Very quiet and pretty fast too.

I wonder if there is a way to make the drive region free esp for DVD playback.
Cheong arh...Hoot dah....

I think the included PowerDVD doesn't play VC-1, only MPEG-2 Only PowerDVD Ultra can decode VC-1. Either that or have to use other ways to playback the VC-1 BDs. Some MPEG-2 BDs may also have special feature clips that are in VC-1.
