I thought now no more such things? Last time on the price list cpu can be as cheap as $5 but got to buy a very over-priced lousy casing. End up can pay even more than other shops for the same bundle.

Funny though, never encountered that. I've been buying from that shop since many years ago. Walk in, want this, want that, total the price, check correct, pay and go. Never had the "need to top-up" before, only got "this+this+this no discount cause it's cash price".

I will never go to such shops. If I hear that I will just walk out.

I think besides going to SLS to get good deals, I would expect a certain level of honesty in doing business. If they can ask me to top up this and that, who knows if the board or chip is not working, they might even come up with more excuses to ask you to pay, or refuse to change it for you. And sometimes you don't even know if the warranty from the local distro is valid unless you call up and check.

I bought mobo + CPU bundle from bell before. Got what I want (In fact the guy made the final decision for me), he look at the pricelist and charged me accordingly.

Maybe nowadays I only buy stuff from the bigger shops unless there are really good deals at the small ones (which might be too good to be true but still worth to check out).

This shop in question is really not a small shop... they have been around for a long time, when ABNN shops were prevalent. Anyway, I only look for the familiar faces when I go to the shop. Their prices are generally one of the lowest around for the core components.
