Buying travel guides in Singapore mariaw May 21st, 09, 06:18 PM #1 (permalink)
I'm going on holiday and am looking for a good travel guide. I came across an article in Female magazine about an online store called GuideGecko. They have discounts and free shipping in Singapore too. Has anyone bought a guide from GuideGecko before?

Sounds interesting! It looks like they offer free shipping in Singapore. Its Lonely Planet prices are definitely cheaper than Kino's too! Thanks for the link, it's good to know about these deals =)

No problem! I've ordered some guides from www.GuideGecko.com a few days ago and received them in my mailbox very quickly!

Where are you going on holiday? Do you think it's better to buy from a bookstore or GuideGecko? I'm wondering if I should get myself a travel guide too.

ytf483, where are you travelling to?

I'm going to Cambodia and Vietnam, and got copies of Lonely Planet Cambodia and DK Eyewitness Vietnam & Angkor Wat. Personally I prefer GuideGecko.com now because it has free shipping with high-quality printing, and I don't have to travel to a bookstore!

From Beijing, you should travel to the Great Wall, of course, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts. Check out the acrobatics shows if you're into the performing arts too!

I bought a Lonely Planet Hong Kong Encounter guide from GuideGecko and saved about $6 compared to the price I'd have paid at another bookstore in town =)

You can also check out OpenTrolley Bookstore. OpenTrolley Bookstore - Singapore's largest online bookstore for travel guides.

It's interesting concept, GuideGecko, where you can sell your own ebooks. But not sure about the quality of those self-written books. Perhaps they could give preview before user make any purchases.

I agree, I like to refer to book previews too, and looks like the front page does have links to previews.
