I would recommend you to go to the beach or jungle trekking.

And must try local dishes (but don't try at the restaurant)

When u wanna buy gift, dun go to the gift shop for local product such as vase or things like that. If u want, u better pay a visit to the longhouse and get the genuine vase or rotan-made-product

Welcome to Sarawak.=)

Kuching has almost no night life to speak of. You can check out the Merdeka Hotel.

Agree with Longsiew... jungle trekking is best. Food is also great... I can always eat 2 bowls of Sarawak laksa in a single sitting. Not a great fan of konlo mee though but you can't say you went to Kuching without trying konlo mee.
Why so serious?

I guess it boils down to individual's definition of a holiday then.

I'm going with 7 other friends. Total 4 dudes 4 dudettes.

The 4 ladies aren't the outdoor type, so most likely jungle trekking is out.

Staying at Damai Beach Resort. Currently has a 68% discount so its major savings.

Few questions.

What is at Merderka Hotel?

Where is this "golden triangle?" and pandungan area? If we tell a local taxi driver will they know?

almost at the heart of the city there, wave any taxi, they sure know how to bring u there.
btw for kuching sightseeing u may wanna try the borneo highland, bako national park, the national museum, the travillion (hang out place) and taman kerata seafood etc.
kuching is quite big. some other ulu places ezly 100km+ from kuching, so no point introduce u this places. 1 of it is called sematan, it is beach resort abt 200km by road from kch.

I spent 5 days there and bored to death...Food is 50/50 and not much variety like SG or KL (or JB). Place is dead after 7.00pm. I stayed in La Magarita Hotel. A 5 star that looks like a 3. You might want to rent a van + driver. Maybe he can guide you here and there but overall, I give the place a 4/10, unless you want to go to the jungle areas...
