My travel experiences cschua76 Aug 28th, 09, 11:02 AM #1 (permalink)
My travel experience to taipei, hualian, on the national day eve, 8th aug – 12th aug, upon reaching Taipei airport it was pretty much easy to get to Taipei wheather you are in terminal 1 or 2, there are a lot of bus travel services in the airport, all you have to do is to look at the bus schedule and the cost was pretty cheap about $6SGD for me to go to taipei train station. People there was very nice and polite, even when moving on the MRT escalator they are very in order, right side is for standing and left side is for people to walk up, I still remember first time I was standing at the left side and I actually notice weird how come I was the only one standing on the left and I came to know that its for people to walk up, I was so paiseh lol. Reaching taipei station took me about 90mins, food in Taiwan was very cheap and affordable, I went to a BBQ restaurant with some friends, a true experience of BBQ using charcoal and wired net which is setup at the table, we have BBQ pork and beef, the meat was very tender and flesh, the staff was very nice, they even taught us how to BBQ, services was good, they even changed the net once a while for us which I haven’t come across any restaurant with such good services with affordable prices in Singapore. Here's the BBQ picture ;p

2nd day, I head to Hualian, good thing its not affected by the typhoon, weather at Taiwan was like in Singapore for summer and down to 10 degree in winter, overall it’s a nice place, took the fastest train there, I stayed at rented house(very popular in Taiwan where they called it 民宿) who was owned by the Taiwanese there located right along the beach where you can have a clear view of the sea and the sunset from the balcony. This is the pic i took from the balcony.

I had seafood over there and it was cheap, lobsters, clams, oysters, fried rice only for $50SGD for 2 person. Pretty worth it. Here's some pcitures hehe...

I visted temples, night markets, sighs seeing took lots of photos, one of the most favourite place i like to visit is the night markets, I visited a few of them and find that they are all very in order, one big lane of shops and stalls divided into 2 lanes, 1 is for people moving in and the other lane is for people moving out, everyone follow the flow and move in the correct direction. Lots of things to eat and buy, food, clothings, bags, accessories etc… pricing was ok, could be bargain for even cheaper. There are even valleys, waterfalls over there where you can take pictures. I had quite a lot of fun over there, learn some of their cultures and living pattern, it was indeed a good experience and there are many places which I would like to visit next time. I spend 5days over there.

Lastly I would advise for summer wear like in Singapore and avoid going there during end December to February as it will be raining almost everyday, best time to go in winter is beginning of November & December and end of March to April where its less rainy and cooling.

Houses at 九份 with the railway in the middle.

Water fall of 九份, abit slippery, advise to wear shoes, try to avoid wearing slippers.

Entrance to Qingjing farm, you can spend halfday over there and eat at the small hawker center located just a few steps away.

You can buy small packets of food from there to feed the sheeps. Pretty fun, don't worry they don't bite ;p

Bangkok trip to Suanlum Night market & Ancient City, suggest if you wanna go to the Night market, just go there eat and sigh seeing, don't bother buying any stuff there coz you can get cheaper stuff at the weekend Chatukcha Day market. Ancient City is still worth a go, you can spend half the day over there, i suggest renting a golf car and drive around as the area is damn big, which i did and its fun driving around hehe. I don't remember how much it cost to rent but i can say its very very cheap.

In the night market

Next Ancient City
A mini river market, only to let you experience how it look like.

Next is the picture taken 1 day before the songkra festival

Further in the City is the Ancient buildings. Driving is so much fun lol

Coming up next will be the Emperor's Palace open to public on certain days and there's a rule that you must wear long pants/dress and no slippers or collarless t-shirt is allowed. Will be posting more pictures soon.
