Affordable Langkawi Trip vincencio Sep 9th, 09, 10:44 PM #1 (permalink)
I and my gf went to Langkawi on 26th ~28th July 2009.

Hope you enjoy it... ;p

Day 1:

-. 11am reached Langkawi Airport, there’s a ‘medical checkpoint’ equipped with a webcam to capture each of our faces then after filling up the medical questionnaire, we went to the toilets immediately. We collected some travel agency brochures (we need the map) and amazed by the car rental (extremely cheap, RM50 for 24hrs) but we were thinking to walk to the hotel as it looks quite near (from the map). Luckily we managed to ask the airport security guard about it, then he smiled after hearing our crazy idea. He suggested us to take a cab. The driver was friendly, my gf asked about the places of interest, restaurants, etc. He replied in a very friendly manner and said that at Cenang Beach (which our hotel, Nadias Inn, located) can try the Indian food (Tomato Restaurant) and Hj Ramli seafood. And explained loads of things about Langkawi, which means orange-reddish eagle. We spent RM18 for the cab.

-. 12pm checked in to the hotel then walk across the street to try the Indian food.

Nasi Briyani and teh tarik is a good combination… After that we walked by the beach and took some photos there, then we decided to try the Hopping Island tour when we passed by the AB Motel. 20RM per head for 4 hours to Pregnant Maiden Island, Eagle feeding, and Beras Basah Island. We still have more than 1 hour for the tour so we went to the convenient store to buy drinks, snacks, and flip flop for my gf.

-. 2pm the tour started with 10 of us. The boat driver was not so friendly by the way but we can speak a bit Malay because we‘re Indonesian. So my gf took the chance to tell others about what time to come back to the boat, how long we can stayed at the island, etc.

1st stop is the Pregnant Maiden island, there’re lots of monkeys along the road.

We went to the lake where you can swim and also can try the cat fish spa.

But we only took photos, didn’t dare to try the cat fish spa… The lake is relaxing, we spent 1 hour then went to see the eagle feeding.

The boat stopped at the sea near an island where we can see a bunch of eagles. Never seen this before, quite fun, unfortunately I don’t have a tele lens. Around half an hour later, we landed on Besar island.

Some of us sun bathing, reading books, playing by the beach, and I enjoyed taking photos. White sand and beautiful scenery. An hour passed by, so we’re heading back to Langkawi.

-. 6.30pm I was planning to capture the sunset around Cenang beach but the sky still bright so we went to Hj Ramli restaurant to have seafood, fish was fresh and tom yam soup was great!

Though there were no other customer at that time, but we enjoyed the food.

-. 7.30pm we were waiting by the beach for the sunset. The scenery was blissful, love the beach. But we’re tricked by our sun glasses as it coated with orange layer so it generates a lovely sunset mood. However I managed to snap few sunsets scenery.

Day 2:

-. 9am had breakfast at Tomato (again). Yeah, we love Tomato, taste good, and cheap! J After indulged our stomach, we’re going to rent a car. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my driving license, then I asked about the motorcycle, and yes, I must have the license as well. Because we have no idea what to do next, so we rented bicycle instead (RM40 for 2 bicycles).

-. 10.30am we started our journey. My gf didn’t feel comfortable with her short then she bought a new one at a store next to the Underwater World. Not so expensive compare to those stores located at the road side. The sun was shining brightly and immensely.

We decided to go to the east side of the island, found an original Malaysian chocolate, quite nice.

Then got ourselves a cheap Nasi Lemak (only RM1), but 1 pax surely not enough for me.

-. 1pm after navigating with our map, then we went to the airport area (the rental didn’t encourage us as the bicycle was not in a good shape). We found a very good location to take photos (forgot what's the name).

Then we continue our journey. The seat was extremely uncomfortable, moreover, I carried a backpack laden with photography equipments (including tripod!), so around the airport, we stopped by to take a rest.

We’re heading to the wet market, as the map was not quite accurate, we had to ask the locals. There’s a bridge in front of us, as we’re exhausted, we walked the bicycle then when we’re heading down from the bridge, an accident occurred, my gf couldn’t control the bicycle then she fell to the left side of the pavement. Luckily she didn’t injure seriously. I asked her whether we should continue the journey, or maybe we called a cab to get back to hotel but she insisted that she’s ok and continue the journey. Then we looked out for public toilet to cleanse the wound but we couldn’t find any as we’re in the middle of nowhere. Based on the map we should walk along the river, after 10minutes later, we finally found the wet market.

And also the toilets, though it’s very dirty and stinks. We rested awhile there.

-. 4.30pm we’re heading back to hotel. Surprisingly, we found another market and some tours brought their customer to a place called Field of Burnt Rice.

So we followed them, quite interesting place. Around half an hour later, we arrived at the hotel. Leave all the things and went to the beach. We didn’t engaged on the water sports thingy, just sitting around the beach, feel the sea breeze, enjoy the sunset, and getting our clothes wet. It was fun!

-. 8pm we had dinner at Tomato (again!). This time I tried the Mie Rebus, very tasty...

Day3:

-. 9am another breakfast at Tomato. And it rained heavily. Luckily I brought my Baleno umbrella. Our flight is 11am. Checked out from hotel 10.45am and asked for a cab. 10.55am and it was still raining, I urged the receptionist to cancel the cab but she assured me that the cab is near the hotel. 11am we managed to get in the cab and I asked the driver to reach the airport in 5minutes, he said that if it was not raining, he could do it. Then he drove crazily! We hardly see the road. 7mintues later, we reached the airport! Wow!!! It cost us only RM20. I directly ran to the check in counter, and thanks GOD that the plane delayed. Pheww….

Hi dradjwg...

glad you enjoy it.

I stayed at Nadias Inn at Cenang Beach.
I didn't take pictures of the hotel because it's not worth it ;p

Quite dirty actually, but you pay what you get...
If you ask me whether I will go back to this hotel?
Hm...
maybe not ;p

I don't think snorkelling is available at Langkawi itself. It is usually done at the Marine Park near another island. There's Cenang and Tanjung Rhu beaches.
