Fantastic Hong Kong - and why you should go! urban_closet Sep 13th, 09, 03:20 PM #1 (permalink)
Well, here's an attempt at travel blogging and of course, who can resist the allure of the Langkawi prize :p

Trip Summary-----
I traveled to Hong Kong for a 7D6N stay at the main island during the close of the July Month (which also happens to be one of the hottest periods in HK - The weather is so humid that it makes u sweat even faster than in Spore, yet everyone seems to be suited up in long sleeves and jeans that makes you wonder where their logic has gone to. Very few ppl were seen in slippers and berms there)

Note - I flew Jetstar. It was cramp and not worth the money, in fact Cathay and SIA dropped their rates!)

I got a room @ Cityview, which is just on top of Yau Ma Tei Station (1 min walk away from Exit D. They were very very kind in giving me a free upgrade to the Executive Room even though I had booked the Deluxe room, and my booking for Jetabout also included a late check out which was just nice for my late flight out of HK.

First day, i made a trip out to a popular shopping area at Nathan which had alot of Handbag shops (gf time!) and also , we happened to run into Kobi Bryant's guest appearance! HAVOC @ the road as tonnes of people crowded the shop to catch a look at him. I only managed to snap off a poor shot of him.

Nearby was Silvergate, which had a very good IT Outlet sale. (this chain stocks MANY cult brands that girls love e.g. Baby Jane, and at prices that are MUCH lower than our overpriced Spore Cult Shops.)

And after a load of shopping, it was off to Sweet Dynasty (just down the road from the Flagship LV Store-google it!) Fantastic Dim Sum and DURIAN DESSERT!!!

Supper at Yau Ma Tei Ladies Market - a very famous Claypot Rice and Oyster Omelette Store! (beware of cockroaches, they onli seem to infest restaurants with good food!) Take note, the egg has to be cracked by yourself raw. For two suakus like me and my gf, this may be a first for u!

Day 2, time for Citygate!

The MTR rides all the way to Tung Chung where the famed Citygate is.

If you still don't think it's a bargain place, I think you should jump off the building! Clothes are REALLY cheap compared to retail prices, and the IT Outlet here is EVEN bigger and discounts are DEFINITELY better than the one I described earlier on at Jordan.

Had lunch at Golden Palace. It looked pretty ATAS from the outside but as you all know, dim sum is an affordable commodity in HK. Bill came up to less than $30. (Note - they had fantastic fried buns with custard cream.. omg...)

Didn't really take pictures at the shopping mall but after a blowing a big hole in the wallet, I hopped over to the mall opposite Citygate (forgot whats the name) and had a quick bubble tea + steamed bun snack. Apparently they are famous in HK!

Nutcracker Bubble tea-

Steamed Bun Shop

We were pretty tired by then, so stopped by the hotel to drop off our purchases and headed to APM. APM is a late night shopping mall, and when I say late they close at 1-2AM. We need such a mall in HK! It's towering with over 7 stories of shops. Not many pictures again, cuz its shopping time! (the si ginna in the picture is NOT me lol!)

Some machine that dispenses WARM cooked instant noodles.. o__O

By this time, it was already close to 12am.. we left with a even bigger hole in our wallets. and of course, as the guy I was left with aching arms as I had to carry all the shopping >__<

Day 3

Brunch at Macs, Hello Kitty Promotion ongoing!

It's off to Mongkok for some electronic shopping! Logitech products are particularly cheap here. In addition, they stock all your usual SLS products found. The staff here seem friendlier too, is there no end to the amazing offers of Hong Kong??!?!?

After that, it was off to Argyle Center for some more shopping. I've always been attracted to the machines at Arcades, check this huge gambling machine in the arcade, you shoot out balls and score points.
(Note - Argyle Center is primarily for girls. Girls will go mad here if they like to wear Korean / Japanese style clothes)

My gf didn't really like the fashion here, so we quickly made our way to Langham place. This place stocks goods that are slightly pricey for my liking, and I didn't find anything to buy.

Grabbed dinner at this Japanese Restaurant, Monster Sushi!

(Note - the sushi here is worth the wait!)

The tamago was creamy and slightly sweet.. you can't find this quality in singapore for only HKD100!~~

After this, it was a quick trip back to our room for some movies and snuggling

Day 4
Ate a quick breakfast at K Mart near our hotel. It has decent snacks at cheap prices! Rice Rolls!

Then it was off to Ocean Park! MTR up to Admiralty and exited at the interchange to take 629 to Ocean Park.
(Note - Purchase tickets at HKD180 instead of HKD20x at the tourism office near the MTR level. KIASU!)

Some Dinosaur Exhibition was going on. The exhibits weren't exactly convincing, but hey, my ticket was cheap!

The rest are misc shots of Ocean Park -

Panda Exhibit, these cute creatures are very precious to the HK Visitors. They almost rioted to get to the front of the glass display (where I was :p)

That's all for the day. Was really tired after all that walking, grabbed a simple dinner and returned home.

Day 5!

We decided to make a trip to 2nd island and check out the CBD. Wow, the fast paced lifestyle looks like it can easily compete with our CBD.

Grabbed some dim sum at the recommendations of my gf's dad. It was a bit expensive

The trams only operate on the 2nd island. So iconic of Hong Kong.

There wasn't much to see in the CBD area, so we made our way back to Nathan. More handbag viewing, and also some very delightful Char Siew Rice was found near the MTR!

Mind you, S$1 = HKD5.3 at that time. This bag can easily get you a 2nd hand Car in Spore, with change to spare. This is a Hermes bag in Alligator Skin.. ouch!

This day ended with Supper at a Japanese Restaurant near Cityview, just across the Nathan Road. They offer discounts of about 45-50% after 11PM. And that's when queues start to form for their reasonable sushi (much better than Sakae!)

Cheesed Fried Salmon was a absolute stormer, proven by the multiple orders all around the restaurant! The grilled Unagi also proved to be a popular dish.

Day 6- It's coming to an end! =(

During our previous trip to HK, we really wanted to try this famous claypot rice at the outskirts of HK. After making our way there and getting lost for 1/2 hour in the streets, we finally found it and it was CLOSED! This time round, we made better preparations and came in time to grab some delicious lunch. The egg tarts were sold out at ONE PM. ONE FREAKING PM. That's how popular they are!

Lovely Claypot Rice

Orgasmic Pork Egg Sandwich. Something that made the egg so delicious..

Lovely Milk Tea!

Our lunch ended with some random buys at the outskirts. By then, it was already around 5pm, so we made our way back to the harbour to take some last nice shots of the sea.
