How to retrieve my files/data from my previous harddisk? vernonlcm Oct 29th, 06, 01:59 AM #1 (permalink)
I really need help. Is there any experts out there able to help me on this issue?
Recently, I had just change my motherboard as the old motherboard spoilt.
As this is a new type of motherboard (cos my previous motherboard already phase out) I am suppose to do a reformat of my current 160gb harddiskdrive (HDD) and reinstall my windows xp before i am able to start up my pc.
As i had not done any backup before cos i had never expected my motherboard to fail.
Knowing that I can't reformat and install my existing 160gb HDD as all my info will be loss, i went to purchase a new 80gb HDD so that i can re-load / re-install my windows xp into it.
I also got a new external HDD cover/casing so that i could later extract out all my data.

The problem lies overhere...
After everything is well set up on my 80gb HDD as my main "C" drive, I try to extract over my data via my old 160gb HDD.
I went over to click on

My Computer / "E" drive (which is my old HDD 160gb for my external drive) / Documents and Settings / "Vernon" (which is my username where all my data are stored in)....

The outcome stated "Access is denied".

I really need to know if there is anyway or possibilities whereby i can bypass this step because all my info / data are stored in there.

I guess there must be a way / solution to it so i tried asking around but up till date, there is still nobody who is able to assist me on this.
When I am about to give up hope, one of my friends told me to try and post into this forum as there are many knowledgeable people / experts who might be able to assist.

I really need your help and guidance on this and any help provided will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help offered. Cheers.

hmmm that is why i never save any files in the folders that windows set for you as you are bound to run into some trouble here and there. What i would suggest is u move the files via a command prompt, but im not really sure if that is a good way or even how to go about it. Any guys can help him? (and enlighten me >.<)
