A long problem... Echo Dec 2nd, 06, 12:09 PM #1 (permalink)
Alright well I have the oldest rig possible to mankind and its having some problems. It was all working fine till I opened it up. I'm only 14 and just getting into computers, and stuff. So I added a 500w OCz Power Supply. a DVD Drive, And a DDR Booster that came with the Power Supply. On WiH, I posted this and it seems that I may have fried two of the three DDR slots, ( I checked) So that means I only have a very little memory. So I've been trying to fix the problem and made a break through yesterday by discovering that the computer will boot up, but say Master-(My hard drive) Slave-(my other hard drive) Master Auto, and Slave Auto. Then it will say Floppy Disk(s) fail. I went into the BIOS changeed all the neccasery things. and changed the order of the drives to boot by putting floppy 2nd and Hard drive 1 1st. After that I booted my old tiger up and for teh first time in about a month it went all the way into Windows It began to load up my Auto-Login Xfire. And it rebooted .

Any advice would be very helpful. Any information you need I will updated to you. I will put pictures on later.

usually if the system are loading windows (loading screen with the bars) and it fail/reboots, it is due to some part of your system being unstable.

could be the last ram slot is corrupted, you should try booting with the min. hardware setup. (but than, unplugging everything on a old rig... you never know it will boot up again)

Don't mind dorm, he is not being helpful since he has no idea how to help.

For starters, please post your computer specs, before and after the change of parts.
