yes, its backwards compatible but i believe the speed of the drive is not fully taken advantage of..maybe u can state yr mobo first.

should be no problem, just that your sata2 hdd will run at 1.5gb/s instead of 3.0gb/s.

Seagate SATA 3 Gb/s drives have a jumper to set. On the .10 series, it defaults to 1.5 Gb/s while the .9 series, default to 3 Gb/s. Make sure you have the correct setting to minimise any compatibility issues.
