Upgrade or a new rig? Ultima- Mar 25th, 07, 09:25 PM #1 (permalink)
Current rig got that feeling of breaking down. Sometimes display stutter , as in turns black for a while then a beep sound then revert to normal. Sound quality got different level of quality during different intervals, to an extend it is not smooth and hear it jumping. Will never buy manufactured PC ever. Got this during March 2005 for 1.7K with upgrade to 17" LCD , now 17" like shit. BIOS lock can't OC. Had a little upgrade once before..

It goes...
P4 3.0GHz
Acer E91M Mainboard ( 1xPCI-E x1 , 3xPCI)
Inno3D GeForce 4400MX AGP8X 128MB PCI
1x256MB PC2700+1x256MB PC3200 ( some lame brand I think)
Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 7
80GB HDD SATA
FSP Group 300W PSU
Fugly Acer Casing
Logitech X-230
Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite (KB+Mouse , KB some buttons hard to tap now when I remove all keys and clean)

I'm 15 turing 16 this September schooling. Pocket money I have like 200 bucks but can save that amount again in 1-2months. Possible to get anything for it? Like upgrades to let it last a BIT more. I'm only allowed to get a full new system probably worth up to 3K or more after my O Lvls.

Any suggestion? Wait and hope it doesn't die on me or add anything?

Well , big problem I dunno how assemble. I is open casing see see look look then know what is what. When need to attach the cables and fan , I dunno wad to do liao lol. DIY PC like the things they use is specific , maybe other parts wont work in these guides.

During that time after o lvls , are there anything announced to come out? Like maybe the next GeForce or maybe DDR3 RAMs .... I dunno. Because my entertainment system goes up to 5K then 2K+ reserve for consoles things...maybe even a HDTV.

Thanks to Ultima- for this useful post! Dec 22nd, 09, from exozito

wait for your O levels 3k would be good. Hope it doesn't die on you. If it dies you can complain about it all the time. 3k would be amazing after april intel price drops and release of ddr3 mobo & ram your money would go a long way getting a ddr2 rig bling bling and all.

"1x256MB PC2700+1x256MB PC3200" your ram already wasted 3200 now running 2700 speed. Acer

No , PC repair once before cuz last time I anyhow put RAM in then spoil then repair at one shop at SLS. Quite very backlane one... got staircase near it I remember. Guy very friendly ... teach me few tricks...but the graphic card he sold makes me feel cheated. He change the RAM to 512 totally new I think...

That means now is 2700 speed?

PC2700 is just a standard. PC2700 is running 333MHz DDR.
PC3200 is running 400MHz DDR effectively.

Why not consider the Dell dimension E520. Quite a good deal for 1499, 19inch LCD, Core 2 duo E6300. 1GB ram. 320GB HDD. 7300LE 256 GFX. If you have purchased that during IT show.. u get 20 inch LCD.

read up more lets say you have ddr2 ram. ddr2-533 means its running at an effective speed of 266 x 2 = 533. same for other ddr2 rams. the effective speed is its frequency x 2.

pc**** is just 8 times the frequency. just divide by 8 and round it off and you get your frequency. ddr stands for double data rate just divide by 2 like hurricaneboi mentioned.
