Funny POST beeping welcomb Jul 7th, 07, 12:03 PM #1 (permalink)
Recently my PC has been having a funny POST boot sequence.

On a cold boot, after pressing the power button, it turns on for 1-2 secs, then turn off again. Then it turns on again and after some pause (longer than the usual wait for a single beep) it beeps one long followed by 3 short.

On first glance (hear) it would seem like a Video Card failure, but after it beeps, another long pause before the same beeping sequence, then after another long pause, the single beep and everything boots like normal.

My monitor is blank while this is all happening. Occasionally I'm able to catch something about my Pioneer DVD drive just before it blanks out for the Windows boot logo.

I'm using a ASUS P5B-E Plus. This thing started happening when I replaced the fan on my U120E. Dunno what this means also.

Anyone has any ideas? Thanks.

i think its your RAM chips: they must've been shaken up a bit
if you've been moving ur CPU, then this must be it
then just remove the ram and insert 'em again
(altho be careful abt the static thingie -> you could destroy ur ram if u arnt careful)

RAM failure is not this beep sequence leh... And it won't boot if there's RAM failure mah.

Anyway I searched and found that this is the error sequence for video card not ready for an error msg. This would explain why it keeps beeping until my video card boots up and start displaying. Unfortunately my monitor lags a little to display and I just miss the message about the Pioneer DVD drive.

Maybe that's it.

It disappeared last night but it happened again tonight. I can't seem to find any reason for the apparent random nature.
