it might be caused by:
Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.
New hard disk drive being added.
Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.
Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.

you might want to try the following methods to resolve ur computer issue:

1.Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
2.When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
3.Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
4.Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
5.You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
6.Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "E". This letter may be different on your computer.

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

another cause is, when u have a hdd with a microsoft OS installed and "registered" to a certain com (mobo to be exact). u will get this error if u try to plug it onto a different com when trying to boot up the os w/o reformatting/ reinstalling the os into the hdd. (no corruption involved... data is perfectly fine)

You are still booting to the hard drive and not the CD.

The NTLDR is the program that loads the NT software - Xp.

Make certain the settings in the BIOS are such that you can boot from the CD drive. If you have two CD drives, make sure the disk is in the correct drive. You need to have it set to either boot to a specific drive - the CD first. Or it should be set to boot to replaceable media drives - which would be floppy or CD drives. You may have to hit a key at start up to get it to switch to the CD drive. The disk should be in when you turn the power on, as some systems only give you a second or two to see if a bootable disk in is the drive.

When you boot to the manufacturers restore disk, it should load a program that gives you options on restoring the system to factory spec.

Use only the disk that came with the machine, not one for a different machine. The settings will not be the same, and a restore disk does not work the same as programming from separate disks does. The restore disk will assume that you have the hardware it was designed to run, and will not look to see if it has changed.

I agree with the above post. It is a corrupted system. Aside from reinstalling or doing a repair, there are also tools that can fix ntldr missing issues. I used a multiboot, it has a ntldr fixer.

It is just my experience but :
- NTLDR Error also can because of wrong voltage setting. As my case when i lower my CPU VTT and few other voltage the message NTLDR Error will apear no matter what.
